HP Omen 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

I've had my Omen for about 8 months now, not encountered any issues whatsoever until yesterday. Even when idle, it makes a weird grinding/vibrating noise which is coming from beneath the keyboard, though i think it's originating from under the number pad/HDMI slot area. It gets louder when using more demanding programmes/games but it is a constant noise. If you can imagine the sound of a police helicopter above, it's similar to that. Weird comparison but it's kinda difficult to describe.

I've checked around this forum before posting and seen similar issues, but I've been unable to pinpoint what it is exactly. The most likely i have seen are dust build up in the fans, and a 'coil whine'?

I've followed the HP support steps for cleaning out the vents, using both compressed air and a hairdryer on cool, but there was no difference.

I'm thinking about taking it to my local PC repair to see if they can fix or identify the problem but i don't want to pay for something before seeing if anyone on here may be able to assist with the issue! It's also still under warranty.

I don't use it for heavy gaming, the only game i really play is Football Manager 2017. I also use it to do work for university work.

Any advice or tips are appreciated!

Thanks for the tips on how else to get the laptop back to normal, I've followed the link and the instructions, performed all available driver updates and other updates.

The laptop is much quieter, however, the vibration is still there if I have my ear close to the keyboard. It gets slightly louder the more the processor/fan is used and with the diagnostics revealing no hardware issues I believe it will be the fan causing the noise.

I'm not worrying as much now, which is good! I'll try and keep the laptop updated as much as possible and frequently do the compressed air/hair dryer to the vents to clear any dust. Over the past day or so it's ran Football Manager perfectly fine, no overheating or anything, but I do move the laptop around if the air coming out is warmer than normal, which seems to help too.

Thanks again for the tips!
