Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution
HP Recommended

Hey! For some time now i have tried to solve my issue but with no success. One day everything was fine and the next day the laptop just does not boot and blinks from the caps lock.

I tried everything:

Hard reset (disconnect ac and battery and held power button down for 15 sec),

reseating RAM,

cleaning, changed the battery (old one was bad anyway and it got changed after the error occured)

Windows + “V”

Windows + “B”

Just holding down “B”

Nothing. Works..

Only thing that i noticed after a hard reset is that i get a 5:3 (5 slow: 3 fast) blink code once and then the 3:2 repeats itself until i turn the pc off.

Digged a bit on the web and 5:3 basically means that the pc cant boot to the bios fast enough (?) and then 3:2 as hardware issue (ram?) (???)

Anyway, hurts to think at this point already and im helpless. What am i missing? What do i not know that the HP support gods do? Help me please!

Model: OMEN by HP 17-an119no

Cheers and thanks in advance!

@DrFlaz, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering an issue with your OMEN by HP 17-an119no where the laptop won't boot, and you're seeing a caps lock blink code of 5:3 followed by 3:2. These blink codes are diagnostic indicators, and I can help break them down based on your description:

5:3 Blink Code:

  • 5 Slow, 3 Fast Blinks typically indicates a BIOS issue or a failure to access the BIOS. This could be related to a failed BIOS chip or corruption, preventing your laptop from reaching the BIOS stage.

3:2 Blink Code:

  • 3 Slow, 2 Fast Blinks usually points to a memory (RAM) issue. This can mean there's a problem with the RAM, such as faulty RAM sticks or an issue with the motherboard’s memory channels.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Reseat the RAM:

  • You’ve already reseated the RAM, but make sure the RAM is seated correctly. If you have more than one stick, try testing each stick individually in different slots to rule out a faulty RAM module or a bad RAM slot.

BIOS Reset (Hard Reset):

  • Perform another BIOS reset by disconnecting the power adapter and battery, then pressing and holding the power button for at least 30 seconds. This can help clear any lingering BIOS corruption.

Clear CMOS:

  • If you haven't tried this already, you could reset the CMOS by removing the CMOS battery (if accessible) for 10–15 minutes and then re-inserting it. This may help reset any BIOS-related issues.

Check for a BIOS Recovery Option:

  • Some HP laptops have a BIOS recovery option. If you have a working USB drive, try to use HP's BIOS recovery tool:
    1. Download the latest BIOS update from HP’s website on another PC.
    2. Place the BIOS file on a USB flash drive (make sure it’s in a FAT32 format).
    3. With the laptop off, plug the USB drive into a USB port, hold the Windows + B keys, and then press the power button while holding both keys. This should trigger a BIOS recovery process.

Try Booting to Diagnostics:

  • To run a hardware diagnostic test, try pressing Esc repeatedly right after powering on your laptop, then press F2 when the diagnostic menu appears. This will run tests on the system, including memory and storage, and might help you isolate the problem.

Inspect for Hardware Damage:

  • If you’ve tried everything above and the issue persists, there may be a deeper hardware failure, such as a faulty motherboard or corrupted BIOS chip. In this case, a professional repair might be needed. We suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
