A while ago I posted this issue Re: HP Omen fan "forgets" to speed up until I tinker with th... - HP Support Community - 8280035

If I'm gaming and the fan isn't set to max, it will sometimes forget to rev up when the computer gets hot. I'll notice that my performance is being throttled, so I'll alt-tab to the Omen Gaming Hub, and the CPU will usually have a very high temperature (sometimes near 100 degrees Celsius). I'll switch that fan controls (from auto to custom, or vice versa) and the fans will immediately speed up, which they should have done automatically without my intervention.

I am posting this again because I recently sent my laptop in for unrelated repairs. Both fans were replaced, and the OS and BIOS were both reset. But even with this clean slate, the issue still happens. This pretty much removes all doubt from my mind that this is a bug with the fan-controlling system, so I am reporting it here.

EDIT: The Omen Gaming Hub just updated and I see the following text listed as a known issue:

  • On 2021 OMEN 16 and 17 Intel notebooks, fan speed may drop when set to MAX.

This is likely the same issue I am seeing, or it is very similar at least, so I'm happy to see it's been noticed and hopefully a fix is on the way! I still want to add that my computer is a 2020 OMEN 15.
