Microsoft Windows 11

Hi guys

Would it really be unsafe to have the fans below 41% when the cpu isn't hot at all? Omen gaming hub won't let me lower them further on my new HP Omen 17. I would've liked my laptop to go really silent when idle or browsing, is there any way to do that? Eco mode is making it even louder somehow and "Fans always on" is already disabled on the bios.

This is the "custom" fan curve I have in gaming hub, as you can see even though the temps get under 40° (nice!) the setting only starts at 50° and is stuck at 41%.

Hi @Aldena,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding reducing fan noise!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Power Plans:

  • Ensure your laptop is set to a power-saving plan when idle or browsing. This can minimize background tasks and reduce CPU usage, potentially lowering fan speed.

OMEN Gaming Hub:

  • Verify your custom fan curve settings in the OMEN Gaming Hub. Although it may restrict lowering fan speed below a certain percentage, ensure that your custom settings are optimal for low CPU activity.
  • Explore other performance modes within the Gaming Hub that might have different fan profiles.

Keep Laptop Clean:

  • Regularly clean vents and fans on your laptop. Dust can cause higher temperatures, prompting fans to run faster.

Eco Mode Settings:

  • Double-check Eco settings. Sometimes specific configurations can cause fans to ramp up unexpectedly.
  • Contact HP support or check the documentation as Eco Mode might have multiple settings or require a specific combination to truly minimize fan noise.

Advanced Settings in BIOS:

  • While "Fans Always On" is disabled, ensure there are no other settings impacting fan behavior. A BIOS update might also improve fan control.

Software Influence:

  • Minimize running background applications and processes. The quieter you can keep your system in terms of processing load, the less work for the fans.

Update System Software:

  • Ensure all drivers, firmware, and the OMEN Gaming Hub software are up to date; sometimes updates can provide better control or optimize fan management.

I hope this helps.
