Hi @Leonardo707,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s laptop issue—it’s especially frustrating when a reliable device suddenly stops working, especially during gaming. Let’s try to figure out what’s going on.
- Has the laptop experienced any physical damage, such as drops or spills, that could have triggered this issue?
- Has your friend noticed any unusual behavior, like overheating or performance drops, before it shut down while gaming?
- Is the charger being used the original one that came with the laptop, or has it been replaced recently?
Let's try these steps.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and charger, then try turning it on.
Inspect the Charger and Power Port:
- Ensure the charger and charging port are clean, undamaged, and functioning correctly.
- Test with another compatible charger to rule out issues with the adapter.
Reset BIOS/CMOS:
- Disconnect the battery and charger.
- Open the back panel and remove the CMOS battery (small coin-like battery).
- Wait for about 5-10 minutes, then reinsert the CMOS battery and try powering on.
Check for Specific Error Code (5+3 Blink):
- On HP laptops, the blink code typically relates to motherboard or processor issues.
- Refer to the HP support documentation for this model to confirm the meaning of the 5+3 blink pattern.
Run Diagnostics with Battery Only:
- Power on the laptop using only battery power and press F2 repeatedly to access HP hardware diagnostics.
- Run a comprehensive diagnostic test to identify any hardware failures.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it could indicate a deeper hardware fault, potentially related to the motherboard or power delivery system. The laptop may need inspection and repair at an authorized service center.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
