HP Pavilion 14-CE2706ND
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a new Notebook the HP pavilion 14-CE2706ND with a Intel® Core™ i7-8565U processor and a NVIDIA® GeForce® MX130 - 2 GB videocard. This looked solid for gaming on this notebook, but when I play any game the whole game is lagging, flickering and crashing en so does my whole laptop. I´ve tried several things on the NVIDIA control panel and the quality settings on the games itself, but nothing seems to work. I think it's very frustrating because this wasn´t what I expected when I bought this notebook. I´m convinced there must be a solution for this, because I think this notebook can  actually run games in a solid way. So my question is does anyone know a solution and is this a frequent thing?

Thanks for reading this, and I hope you can think of any solution, it will help me a lot.

Pelle

@Pellevdh Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are facing lagging, flickering, and crashing issues while playing the games.

I understand your concerns.

I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution;

When was the last time it worked without these issues (date)?

Which games are causing these issues and are they online games or installed on your PC?

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on HP Forums?

What is the product number of your computer? (Ensure you don't share any personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc..).

In the meantime, you may try the below steps, as even if the game is compatible with your system hardware it may have a slow performance because you are using the windows 8, 8.1 or 10 as the OS uses most of the CPU & graphics card usage, you might want to reduce the visual effects for windows to save the amount of CPU & Graphics card usage required to run your game properly.

Here's how you do it:

  • Go to Start Menu > click on Settings.

  • Type performance > choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.

  • In the new window, go to the Visual Effects and select Adjust for best performance.

  • click Apply and ok...this should do the trick.

If the issue persists, The best way to resolve the issue is to follow the suggestions of the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

Click here to access it (simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

CLICK HERE FOR MORE STEPS AND INSTRUCTIONS.
(by the end of this document, all the issues should be resolved)

Please update the graphics drivers and BIOS.

Hi Praveen196,

Thanks for your message!

I've never worked without these issues, it's since I bought the laptop.

It's on all games, and heavy programs aswell (for example when I'm watching youtube).

I've taken some steps, all my energy settings are on the best possible performance for the laptop.

The product number is 5CD9226XQV.

I have updated the drivers, and tried all the best energy settings for my laptop, but it doesn't work.

But I noticed something: the problem only occurs when my laptop is not on main power. When I unplug the charger, it instantly goes slow and lagging. But on battery, all my settings are on maximum performance aswell.

I hope this information helps you.

Thank you in advance,

Pellevdh

I understand your concerns.

Here's what I recommend: Right-click your desktop background and select NVIDIA Control Panel. You can also find this tool by performing a Start menu (or Start screen) search for NVIDIA Control Panel or by right-clicking the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and selecting Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

To quickly set a system-wide preference, you could use the Adjust image settings with the preview option. For example, if you have old hardware that struggles to play the games you want to play, you may want to select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider all the way to “Performance.” This trades graphics quality for an increased frame rate.

By default, the “Use the advanced 3D image settings” option is selected. You can select Manage 3D settings and change advanced settings for all programs on your computer or just for specific games. NVIDIA keeps a database of the optimal settings for various games, but you’re free to tweak individual settings here. Just mouse-over an option for an explanation of what it does.

If you have a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology — that is, both NVIDIA and Intel graphics — this is the same place you can choose which applications will use the NVIDIA hardware and which will use the Intel hardware.

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

Have a nice day!!

Hi Praveen196,

Thanks for your message again!

The steps that you explain to me doesn't seem to work, and I have tried it before your message.

I have begun this post with 'gaming problems' , but the problem is actually on all the programs on my laptop, but I notice it more when I run heavy programs. And it is very strange that when I'm charging my laptop this doesn't occur, so I do think it's something with the power settings in my laptop. But I've tried so many things on my energy settings and it doesnt seem to work.

Is this an common problem?

Thank you in advance,
Pellevdh
