HP Pavilion Gaming 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey there, I'd appreciate any help with this.

I own a HP Pavilion Gaming 15 laptop (cx0598na) and every so often I'll get the 5.3 issue (caps blinks slowly 5 times, then fast 3 times). I checked HP's website and it says "The embedded controller times out waiting for the BIOS." However, it's infrequent and most of the time the laptop boots up absolutely fine so I'm skeptical the motherboard is faulty because otherwise it would never boot up into Windows.

When the issue does happen, I leave the laptop for about 10 minutes, turn it on and it seems to boot up fine with no problems.

I've ran the check tests for the HDD and memory which both come out fine and the BIOS is version f.20.

Should I update the BIOS? Do I need to send it off for a repair? What do you think the problem is?

Many thanks in advance.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer doesn’t boot sometimes and the caps lock light blinks.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thanks for your reply @The_Fossette

I called HP describing the issue and they offered to repair the laptop as part of my warranty.

They replaced the motherboard and battery. The laptop works 100% now.

Thanks!
