Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb1000 (7Y8M8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have an HP Victus 15-fb0000 that I bought about a year ago. When I first got it, the webcam worked fine (tested on Windows and Debian Linux). The LED would light up and I used it for online meetings without issues.

Recently, the camera stopped working completely. On both Windows and Debian it shows “no camera detected.” The LED does not light up at all.

Here is what I have tried so far:
- Updated BIOS → no change
- Reinstalled Windows using HP Cloud Recovery Tool → camera still missing
- Device Manager does not show a camera device
- Installed HP drivers manually → no effect
- Tested again on Debian Linux → same issue
- Opened the laptop and checked connections → all cables look fine

At this point, the camera has disappeared from both Windows and Linux. It looks like a hardware issue, but I’d like to confirm before replacing the module.

Is this a known problem with HP Victus laptops? I’ve seen many people posting on Reddit with the same issue, so I want to know if this is a common problem and how I can solve this.

@B0TAT0MAN, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If the webcam on your Victus by HP 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop is not detected on both Windows and Debian, and the LED indicator does not light up, it suggests a potential hardware issue. Here is a step-by-step guide to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue, including some steps you may not have tried yet:

Verify Webcam Privacy Settings:

  • Some HP laptops have a webcam privacy switch or shutter key. Ensure that these are set to enable the webcam (source).

Check in BIOS/UEFI:

  • Boot into BIOS/UEFI settings and see if there is any mention of enabling/disabling the webcam. Some models allow direct hardware toggling from the BIOS settings.

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI):

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues that might impact the webcam. During boot, press F2 to open diagnostics, and perform a component test (source).

Try USB Camera:

  • Connect an external USB webcam to verify if the issue is isolated to the internal webcam. This can also serve as a temporary workaround while diagnosing the internal webcam issue.

Consider Hardware Replacement:

  • If the internal webcam or its connection appears faulty upon inspection, you might need to replace it.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
