Hello,

Is this correct that this laptop only have TGP of 50w on its rtx 4050 gpu and can it be set higher somehow?

Hi @sergeronimo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Victus 15-fb3093dx with RTX 4050 appears to be limited to about 50 W GPU power and you want to know if it can be increased. Let’s go through a few checks to make sure the GPU is running at its intended performance level.

Confirm the laptop is plugged into AC power
The GPU will reduce power usage when running on battery.
Connect the original HP power adapter and test again.

Set Windows power mode to Best performance
Go to Settings → System → Power & Battery → Power mode.
Select Best performance to allow the GPU to run at full power.

Enable Performance mode in OMEN Gaming Hub
Open OMEN Gaming Hub → Performance Control.
Select Performance mode so the system allows higher GPU and CPU power usage.

Update graphics drivers
Install the latest NVIDIA RTX 4050 laptop GPU driver.
Restart the laptop after the installation completes.

Check GPU usage during gaming
Use Task Manager → Performance → GPU or a monitoring tool to confirm the GPU is under load.
Low utilization can make power usage appear capped.

Keep airflow clear and temperatures stable
Make sure the vents are not blocked and the laptop is on a hard surface.
Thermal limits can reduce GPU power automatically.

Important note:
On most HP Victus 15-series laptops, GPU TGP is set by the system BIOS and cooling design, and it cannot be increased beyond the factory configuration. The RTX 4050 in this model typically operates around its designed power limit, and software tools cannot raise that limit beyond what the system supports.

I hope this helps.

Hi @sergeronimo,

Thank you for the response.

Let’s go through a few checks.

Step 1: Confirm expected GPU power behavior

The RTX 4050 Laptop GPU can operate between roughly 35 W and 115 W depending on the laptop design.

In the Victus 15-fb3093dx configuration, the GPU power limit is typically set around 50 W by the system firmware and cooling design.

Monitoring tools like NVIDIA Control Panel or GPU-Z showing ~50 W under load usually indicate the intended configuration.

Step 2: Verify the system is running in performance mode

Connect the original HP power adapter.

Open OMEN Gaming Hub and select Performance mode.

Set Windows Power Mode to Best Performance.

Test GPU power draw while running a game or benchmark.

Note: These steps ensure the GPU is not being limited by software power settings.

Step 3: Understand TGP limitations

Laptop GPU TGP is controlled by BIOS firmware and motherboard power delivery.

It cannot be increased through drivers, NVIDIA tools, or Windows settings.

Increasing TGP beyond the factory design can cause thermal or power instability.

Step 4: Check performance expectations

Run a GPU benchmark or game performance test.

Compare results with other RTX 4050 laptops using similar power limits.

Performance differences between 50 W and higher-TGP models are expected.

Step 5: Available options

Continue using the system within its designed configuration.

Use an external GPU setup if supported by your system.

Consider upgrading to a higher-TGP gaming laptop model if greater GPU performance is required.

I hope this helps.

All you had to do was tell me is model that I have  HP limited to 50 w so I wouldn.t waste time on useless "tips"

Hi @sergeronimo,

Thank you for your feedback, you’re right to expect a clear answer.

For the HP Victus 15-fb3093dx (BM4X8UA), the RTX 4050 Laptop GPU is configured by design to operate at approximately 50 W TGP, and this limit is controlled by the system firmware, power delivery design, and cooling capacity. It is not adjustable through BIOS, drivers, OMEN Gaming Hub, or NVIDIA software.

I understand the earlier troubleshooting steps were frustrating since the behavior you’re seeing is the intended configuration for this specific model. Your monitoring results confirming a ~50 W limit are consistent with how this system is designed to operate.

Thank you for your patience while working through the checks.

Best Regards,

Kuroi_Kenshi
