Hi @Arathi30,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Victus 16 is experiencing several power-related issues. Let's troubleshoot these step by step.
Perform a Hard Reset
This can help in resetting any low-level hardware states and potentially resolve power issues.
- Turn off your laptop.
- Disconnect all external devices.
- Unplug the power adapter.
- If the battery is removable, take it out.
- Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter (if applicable).
- Try turning on your laptop.
Check for Software Updates
Sometimes, power-related issues can be fixed with software or firmware updates.
- Boot your laptop.
- Press Windows + S and type Windows Update and select the appropriate option.
- Check for updates and install any available ones.
- Restart your laptop after installing updates.
Check Power Settings
Misconfigured power settings can cause issues with sleep and power states.
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Select your preferred power plan and click on Change plan settings.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Sleep and ensure the settings are configured correctly (e.g., Sleep after, Hibernate after).
- Expand Power buttons and lid, and ensure settings for power button and sleep button are correct.
- Apply changes and restart.
Check Device Manager for Driver Issues
Outdated or incorrect drivers can cause power issues.
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Look for any devices with a yellow exclamation mark. These need attention.
- Right-click on each problematic device and select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Restart the laptop if drivers were updated.
BIOS/UEFI Settings
Incorrect BIOS/UEFI settings can lead to power management issues.
- Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc, F2, F10, or Del during startup).
- Look for power management settings and ensure they are correctly configured.
- If unsure, load the default settings (usually there’s an option to load default or optimized settings).
- Save changes and exit.

Check for Hardware Issues
If the power button itself is unresponsive or requires multiple presses, it might be a hardware issue.
- Inspect the power button for any physical damage.
- Ensure the button isn't stuck and functions correctly.
- If comfortable, reseat internal connections: Open the laptop and check internal connections around the power button (if you're comfortable doing so, otherwise consult a technician).
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics tools that can help identify hardware issues.
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly during startup to access the Startup Menu.
- Press F2 to enter System Diagnostics.
- Run the extensive system test, including power, battery, and hardware tests.
- Follow any instructions provided after the tests.
Reset the System (Last Resort)
If the above steps don’t work, consider a system reset or recovery.
- Backup your data.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
- Under Reset this PC, select Get started.
- Choose to keep your files or remove everything, and follow the prompts.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
