Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, everyone.

Recently, I've noticed that when my notebook is slept (typically because I press the option to do it in the power menu), there is a chance it doesn't "properly" wake up: the power button light will come on, but the display remains black. When I try doing a hard reboot when it's in this state, it typically shows the "Victus" loading screen and sometimes even a loading circle, but still nothing afterwards--it seems like random chance whether it actually lets the computer start, which it sometimes does into 640x480 for some reason, which leads me to believe it's a display/driver issue, but I'm not sure where, since, at least through the NVIDIA control panel, I have the most up to date drivers.

From what I can tell, it also doesn't register in the Event Viewer or Reliability Monitor beyond a "Windows was not properly shut down" message with little elaboration.

ADDITION: I think it might be tied to a hardware error that seems to occasionally happen in the middle of the night/early morning, when I'm not using it, with the following details:

Windows

I've looked into it, and it seems like this mostly occurs to people who are active on their computers when it happens.

Hi @JacksonBoe,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some frustrating issues with your Victus gaming laptop when it goes to sleep and attempts to wake up. Based on your description and the additional hardware error details, here are a few steps and considerations that might help resolve or diagnose the problem.

Update Drivers and BIOS

Ensure that all your drivers are up to date, not just those managed through the NVIDIA Control Panel. This includes graphics drivers, chipset drivers, and any firmware updates available for your laptop, including BIOS updates. Sometimes, HP releases updates specifically to address sleep/wake issues and hardware compatibility.

Power Settings and Sleep Issues

Check your power settings in Windows to ensure they are configured correctly. Sometimes, improper power settings can cause issues with sleep mode. Try resetting your power plan settings to default and adjusting them according to your preferences.

  1. Open Control Panel and go to "Power Options."
  2. Choose your current power plan and select "Change plan settings."
  3. Click on "Restore default settings for this plan."

Windows Update

Make sure your operating system is fully updated through Windows Update. Sometimes, critical updates or patches are released that can resolve hardware compatibility issues.

Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup is a feature in Windows that can sometimes cause issues with waking from sleep. Disabling it might help:

  1. Open Control Panel and go to "Power Options."
  2. Click on "Choose what the power buttons do" on the left.
  3. Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable."
  4. Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)."

Check Event Viewer

Since you mentioned it doesn't register properly in Event Viewer, keep an eye on Event Viewer after the issue occurs. Look for any specific error codes or warnings that might provide more insight into what's going wrong during the wake-up process.

Hardware Diagnostics

Given the LiveKernelEvent hardware error you mentioned, it could indicate a deeper hardware issue. Run built-in hardware diagnostics or use third-party tools to check the health of your system components, including memory, hard drive, and graphics card.

Graphics Driver Settings

In addition to updating drivers, check your NVIDIA Control Panel settings. Ensure that the resolution settings and other display configurations are set correctly. Sometimes, incorrect settings can cause display issues after waking from sleep.

By systematically checking and addressing these areas, you should be able to narrow down the cause of the problem with your Victus gaming laptop and hopefully resolve the waking from sleep issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
