I recently purchased a HP Victus 15 it came with the default 8gb ram and so I tried to upgrade it to 16gb. I have done this many times and so was extremely careful when swapping out the ram.

Once installed I tried booting the PC, this is when I encountered my problem.

when I press the power button on the keyboard the LED indicator turns on for a second or 2 before turning off. Everytime I press it, it does the same thing.

i reinstalled the old ram and encountered the same issue, I can confirm that both the new ram and old ram work perfectly as I tested it on another laptop.

I have scoured several forums all suggesting I do a hard reset by pressing the power button anywhere from 30-60 seconds and then holding Windows + B + Pwr button for 3 seconds but none of that seems to work.

are there any suggestions?

I thought this could be an issue with the tamper lock but in all honesty I have no idea.

looking forward to any assistance

kind regards

Hi @DeeJayKenzie,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When you press the power button, do you hear the fan spin or any beeps, or is it completely silent after the LED goes off?
  • Did you disconnect the battery or AC adapter before swapping the RAM?
  • Have you noticed any blinking LED codes (sometimes the caps lock or power LED flashes in a pattern to indicate hardware errors)?
  • Did you reseat the RAM firmly until the clips clicked into place?

Suggested troubleshooting steps

  1. Power reset with battery removal
    • Disconnect the AC adapter.
    • If your model allows,
    • Hold the power button for 30–60 seconds to discharge residual power.
    • Reconnect only the AC adapter and try powering on.
  2. Check RAM slot and contacts
    • Inspect the RAM slots for dust or bent pins.
    • Reseat the RAM carefully, ensuring it’s fully locked in place.
  3. Try one stick at a time
    • If you have two RAM sticks, test booting with only one installed.
    • Alternate between slots to rule out a faulty slot.
  4. External display test
    • Connect to an external monitor to check if the system is booting but the display isn’t initializing.
  5. Check for LED blink codes
  • HP laptops often use blink codes to indicate hardware issues. If you notice a repeating pattern, that can help identify the problem.

I hope this helps.
