Welcome to our HP Community forum!
From your display info:
Desktop mode is set to 3840 × 2160 (4K) @ 165 Hz,
Active signal mode is 1920 × 1080 @ 165 Hz,
Color space is currently SDR (not HDR).
What this means:
Your laptop's internal display is running at 1080p upscaled to 4K (that's why desktop vs. active signal mode differ).
The refresh rate is already locked at 165 Hz, which is the panel's maximum.
HDR isn’t active yet -you’d need to switch it on under Windows Settings → Display → HDR.
So yes, you can use the same resolution and refresh rate when enabling HDR. Just make sure to:
Go to Settings → System → Display → HDR and toggle HDR on.
Keep your refresh rate at 165 Hz (already set correctly).
For the best results, use the native panel resolution (1920×1080) when gaming, not the upscaled desktop 4K. That way you'll avoid scaling overhead and get smoother performance.
Quick tip: Some games handle HDR better than others. If you do see washed-out colors after enabling it, adjust the in-game HDR calibration sliders or temporarily turn HDR off for competitive titles.
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,
