Omen laptop 15t 7lg5oav_1

Hello hp community

I am considering purchasing an Hp omen 15t laptop but the one thing holding me off from it is it's poor battery life, even for a gaming laptop, but I was wondering if anyone knows of an alternate battery so as to get it to last longer for things like watching movies, creating office documents, light gaming, but mostly running an oculus VR headset.

does anyone have any ideas?

thank you so much for your time.

Hello @Hussky99

That model can come with either a 3 cell or 6 cell battery depending on what configuration you choose when ordering. You cannot choose the battery itself. There is no other battery I know of that will work for that series. Page 39 of the manual... http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06367430.

HP does not recommend gaming or especially using a VR headset on battery-only. The system will throttle on battery-only to save on heat and power and cannot be fully adjusted to match the AC power source.

Plus you will bring the battery to its end of life much sooner with that many recycles put on it.

I always use mine plugged in while in use, unless I have to travel and cannot access a plug-in and only if doing lite tasks like email or documents.  Those Omen models do not support Optimus switchable graphics above a GTX 1660 which can cause more power usage as well.

Hope that answers your question. Let me know if you have others.

Thank you so much, just one other question, it is possible to play games on battery only, it just won't last long and won't look as good. but it would be okay for light gaming?

 Thanks.

You can do what you want, its totally up to you.  I just recommend you game on Power Cord, but if you are traveling and must use battery, just do what you need to do. It will be OK.

You can set the NVIDIA Control Panel to Maximum settings to make the graphics card use more than without.
