I recently purchased this laptop and I'm about ready to return it because of this issue. About 50% of the time when the laptop goes to sleep, it crashes and reboots. I've been through the event log and the only event I see is the Kernel telling me that it rebooted without properly shutting down.

I've used the AMD driver clean up tool and reinstalled those drivers. I've done a clean install of the NVidia drivers. I have all current HP software according to the support assistant. i have all current Windows Updates installed. I'm at a loss.

Hi @utahnikonguy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're facing with your OMEN 16-ap0053dx might be related to hardware drivers or system settings. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Update BIOS:

  • Ensure you have the latest BIOS update for your OMEN laptop. Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop’s model to find any available BIOS updates.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings.
  • Click on "Change advanced power settings" and ensure that sleep and hibernation settings are properly configured. You might want to set "Allow hybrid sleep" to off, and ensure no conflicting settings are causing issues during sleep mode.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows operating system is up to date with the latest patches, which can resolve known issues related to system stability.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues. This can help identify if there’s a hardware malfunction possibly causing the reboots.

Review Startup Programs:

  • Open the Task Manager and look at Startup programs to disable any unnecessary programs that might interfere with system sleep or cause crashes.

Check for additional driver updates:

  • Besides graphics drivers, check for updates to your chipset, network, storage, and other critical drivers via the Windows Device Manager or HP Support Assistant.

Windows Event Viewer:

  • Even though you've checked, continue monitoring the Event Viewer for any patterns or errors just before the crash. Sometimes other processes might log events that can be clues.

Consider Resetting the PC:

  • As a last resort, consider performing a Windows 10/11 reset or restore to factory settings. Be sure to back up your data before doing this step.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The only thing that you listed here that I haven't done is reset the PC. I should have just returned it while I had the chance.
