Hello,
Max power of RTX5080 Mobile GPU is limitied to 80 Watts even the hardware supports 175 W. There is no power setting in BIOS interface to overcome is issue.
HP has not provided Omen Gaming Hub for an OS other than Windows 11. We don't have to use Windows OS on a laptop that we purchased as free OS. That is a great disappointment for making a decision on buying an HP product.
Please provide driver and software support for Linux.

Hi @yetkinfea,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I completely understand your frustration with buying a high-end OMEN laptop and then finding that power limits and lack of Linux support can feel like a broken promise. Let me clarify what’s happening and what HP officially offers:
Why Your RTX 5080 Mobile GPU Is Limited to 80W
- HP sets Dynamic Power Limits in firmware to balance thermals, battery life, and system stability.
- Even if the GPU supports 175W, the laptop’s VRM design and cooling system may not allow full power draw safely.
- These limits are controlled by BIOS and EC firmware, not user-accessible settings.
Currently, HP does not provide a BIOS option to override GPU power limits for safety reasons.
OMEN Gaming Hub on Linux
- OMEN Gaming Hub is officially supported only on Windows.
- HP does not provide a Linux version yet, which means:
- No official GPU tuning
- No fan control
- No performance profiles outside Windows
HP’s Official Position on Linux Support
- HP laptops can run Linux, but driver and tuning support are limited.
- NVIDIA drivers for Linux are available from NVIDIA, but HP does not provide OMEN Hub or power control tools for Linux.
- HP recommends using:
- NVIDIA proprietary drivers for GPU performance
- Open-source tools like GreenWithEnvy or nvclock for limited tuning (community-supported)
👉 HP Printer Driver Support for Linux OS | HP® Support:
HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP)
(Primarily for printers, but shows HP’s Linux stance)
What You Can Do
- Install NVIDIA Linux drivers:
👉 Download The Official NVIDIA Drivers | NVIDIA - Use community tools for fan and power control (with caution).
- If you need full OMEN Hub features, HP currently requires Windows.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
