HP OMEN 15-dh0000nx Gaming Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought this laptop a few months ago so it's still fairly new, and ever since the start I've been noticing how warm it actually gets while playing games, especially at the area between the keyboard and the screen, I even feel the heat under the keyboard while typing/playing.

These are the specifications:

https://support.hp.com/ee-en/document/c06427846

I have been using the Omen Command Center(Which was pre-installed) to check the GPU and CPU temperatures, and I've noticed that my CPU gets to very high temperatures, which the Command Center still shows in the green, I've taken a screenshot while playing a commonly played game(Overwatch) but these are the usual temperatures for other games as well, such as GTA and various other games.

Screenshot

While playing, or even in just the menu screen of the game, the CPU temperature seems to often go over 90C, though sometimes it drops to 85C, but the range seems to be 85-95C in most games.

Are these numbers normal? Should I be worried? Is there an issue in my hardware or cooling system?

For reference, these are the numbers when I'm not playing any game: Screenshot

If I continue to play with these high temperatures, is it going to damage my CPU? Are the temps that the Omen Command Center is showing accurate?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
use the following steps:

  • Shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat.

For more information on reducing heat inside your computer, see Reducing Heat Inside the PC.

  • After you remove the dust, turn on the computer. If the error message persists, continue with these steps.
  • Perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset can reset recorded thermal values in memory and enable you to use the computer again, even if only for a short time to access and save any important files before service.

For more information on performing a hard reset, see Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues.

  • In some cases, updating the BIOS might help prevent this error from occurring. For more information on how to update the BIOS, see Updating the BIOS.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Please take another look at what I originally posted(I am aware that you have to use generic responses/solutions), but to clarify, I never had any error messages, I'm just experiencing high temperatures, not performance issues.

When playing games, even old ones, the CPU's temperature can spike up to 95ºC and hover there for a bit before returning to 85-90ºC

I feel the heat under the keyboard and on the body of the laptop itself, this is causing obvious concern and it's clearly stated on the document that you provided that the temperature shouldn't be going that high, it's still a new laptop and I don't want to damage anything, so I'm asking for clarification.

A few things to note:

-I do regularly clean the vents, they're fairly clean, the fans seem to be working and the laptop is new either way so this obviously isn't the problem.

-This doesn't happen when I'm doing any extra heavy work, while playing, I usually have one messaging app running in the background and a few others like an Antivirus and NVIDIA settings. So this issue isn't because of too many applications running at the same time, I even keep my browser closed while playing games.

-By searching on the forums, some things have been recommended to others before me, such as lowering the maximum processor state and "undervolting" the CPU. I tried both(After getting desperate), and there wasn't any noticeable change as I still experience the high temperatures often.

-I have preformed a BIOS update after making the original post, again, still didn't fix the issue.

There is no error messages or performance issues, only concerning and physically uncomfortable high temperatures.

So, assuming these temperatures aren't normal, what is the issue? Is there something wrong with my laptop/CPU?

I'm gonna keep searching for more fixes, but so far nothing you mentioned seems to be working. I do appreciate the time you're taking to help nevertheless.

One recommendation that stands out is changing the thermal paste, this isn't something that I have any knowledge about and I don't know if there's any places near where I live that could do this as well.
