OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop 16-n0000 (5B1T7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi I bought this laptop in 2022-2023, whatever this thing is, I've found 3 different numbers looking up exactly this laptop, n0033, n0000, and n0xxx so getting support for this was very aggravating and not made easy by the labeling of the laptop. I'm having issues with random screen shutoffs and it stops the mouse and the keyboard from being used but the laptop itself stays on and eventually just restarts, not sure if its a sensor issue saying its overheating(It isn't. please don't respond asking me to check to see if its overheating) I've fully factory reset the laptop, deleted all files and cleaned drives and here i am now and its still happening, not sure what else to try, seeing a lot of others having similar issues with HP omen 16's

Hi @Sydney2051,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OMEN 16 laptop is experiencing random screen shutoffs, keyboard/mouse freezing, and automatic restarts, even after a full factory reset, and it’s not overheating. Let’s go through a few focused troubleshooting steps to try to resolve this.

Update BIOS / Firmware

Random freezes and restarts on OMEN laptops are sometimes caused by outdated BIOS or firmware.

Go to HP Support → enter your exact product ID (from the sticker under the laptop or BIOS).

Download the latest BIOS update and carefully follow the instructions to install it.

After updating, restart and test.

Update Drivers

Graphics Drivers: Update both NVIDIA (or AMD if applicable) and Intel integrated GPU drivers directly from the manufacturer websites, not just Windows Update.

Chipset / Intel ME Drivers: These control low-level system functions and can affect stability.

OMEN Gaming Hub / HP Command Center: Ensure you have the latest version; sometimes old versions can cause system conflicts.

Disable Automatic Sleep / Hybrid Sleep / Fast Startup

Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Change Plan Settings → Change Advanced Power Settings.

Disable Hybrid Sleep, Fast Startup, and make sure USB selective suspend is off.

These features can sometimes trigger freezes and restarts when the system thinks a device is unresponsive.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Restart the laptop and press ESC → F2 to run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

Run System Tests, especially the Memory Test and Hard Drive/SSD Test, to rule out failing components.

Note that even if the laptop resets, intermittent hardware faults (RAM, storage) can cause these symptoms.

Check Event Viewer Logs

Press Windows + X → Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System.

Look for Critical or Error events around the time of the freeze/restart.

Event IDs can indicate whether it’s a driver crash, power issue, or hardware fault.

Test in Clean Boot Mode

Press Windows + R → msconfig → Selective Startup → Load System Services Only.

Restart and use the laptop.

If the issue disappears, it may be caused by software or background processes conflicting with hardware.

I hope this helps.
