Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I’ve recently replaced the battery on my HP victus 15 gaming laptop, and i’ve encountered a few issues.

First of all, the laptop does not charge, and I don’t believe it is the AC adapter, since the charging light turns on when the battery is not attached. Second of all, when I do an advanced restart, it says “Your PC/Device needs to be repaired” and shows the error code “0x0000098”. Finally, I also get a “CMOS checksum is invalid” message whenever i disconnect and connect the new battery.

I believe its a BIOS issue but when I use the HP software updates and drivers page, there are no available updates for my certain device.

Is this a software or a hardware issue? Is there anything I could do before bringing it to a computer shop to get it repaired?

Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi @skyous,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your Laptop battery that charges intermittently.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Inspect the Charger and Cable: Check for any visible damage to the charger, cable, or connectors. Look for frayed wires or bent connectors, as these can cause intermittent connections.

Test the Power Outlet: Plug the charger into a different power outlet to rule out issues with the outlet itself.

Check the Charging Port: Inspect the charging port on your laptop for any debris or damage. Sometimes dust or lint can prevent a proper connection.

Try a Different Charger: If you have access to another compatible charger, try using it to see if the problem persists.

Test the battery: Refer to the steps on this link to test the battery to check if there is any issue with the battery.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

I’ve tested both battery and charge. They both work, but the computer is not letting the charger charge the battery. Ive even tested the output of the charger and its at 19.92V (compared to its regular 19.5V), but im not sure if thats the reason its not allowing for the laptop to charge.
