I have HP Pavilion 15 gaming laptop, which got this weird problem of black bar pops up randomly anytime after boot up or wakeup from sleep. This does not happen every time but randomly. If restart the laptop or change between refresh rates it gets normal again. I tried updating driver and also reinstall Windows but nothing helped.

Hi @DevamOP,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop's display!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Thanks for sharing the image, that helps a lot. The black bar on your HP Pavilion 15 Gaming laptop display definitely looks like a panel or GPU-related issue, since you’ve already ruled out software causes by updating drivers and reinstalling Windows.
Here are a few things you can try to further narrow it down:
External Monitor Test
Connect your laptop to an external display (HDMI/DisplayPort).
If the black bar also appears on the external monitor → the issue is with your GPU or motherboard.
If the external display looks fine → the issue is with the laptop’s built-in display or display cable.
BIOS Check
Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F10 or Esc).
If the black bar appears in BIOS too → it’s almost certainly hardware-related.
HP Hardware Diagnostics
Power off the laptop.
Power it on and immediately press Esc → then select System Diagnostics (F2).
Run the Display test to check for panel issues.
Physical Checks
Sometimes, loose display connectors can cause intermittent bars. If your laptop is under warranty, don’t open it yourself — but mention this possibility to HP Support.
I hope this helps.
