Hi @Whitetail23,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Pavilion is experiencing a hardware or power issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to diagnose and potentially fix the problem.
Check the Power Supply
- Power Adapter: Ensure the power adapter is working correctly. If you have a multimeter, you can test the adapter to see if it’s delivering the correct voltage. Alternatively, try using a different compatible power adapter.
- Power Outlet: Verify the power outlet is functional by plugging another device into it.
Perform a Hard Reset
A hard reset can help if there is an issue with the laptop’s hardware state.
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Remove the battery (if it is removable).
- Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
- Reinsert the battery (if removed) and plug the power adapter back in.
- Try to turn on the laptop.
Check for Loose Connections
- Open the laptop (if you’re comfortable doing so) and check if there are any loose connections, especially around the battery, RAM, and power components.
Test the Battery
- Remove the battery and try powering the laptop directly from the power adapter. If it turns on, the battery might be faulty.
- Replace the battery with a new one (if available) to see if the battery is the issue.

Remove Peripherals
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external monitors, etc.) and try to power on the laptop. Sometimes, external devices can cause startup issues.
Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the laptop for any signs of physical damage that might have occurred while you were away. This includes checking the screen, keyboard, and ports.
Listen for Beeps or Sounds
- If the laptop is making any beeping sounds or showing LED blink codes, note these as they can help diagnose the issue.
Inspect the Display
- Sometimes the laptop might be on, but the display is not working. Try connecting an external monitor to see if there is a display output.
CMOS Battery
- If you're comfortable opening your laptop, you might want to check the CMOS battery. A dead or dying CMOS battery can sometimes prevent the laptop from starting.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
