Hi @Andrew9991, Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

The DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error is typically caused by driver conflicts, SSD firmware issues, or system-level instability. Since you've already tried RAM replacement, BIOS reset, and OS reinstall, let's go deeper into the root causes and apply targeted fixes.

Check SSD Firmware Compatibility

This error often occurs due to outdated or incompatible SSD firmware.

  • If your laptop uses a Western Digital, Intel, or Samsung NVMe SSD, download the respective SSD firmware update tool:
    • Samsung Magician Software
    • Intel Memory and Storage Tool
    • Western Digital Dashboard

Update the SSD firmware and restart your system.

Update All Drivers via HP Support Assistant

Even if Device Manager shows no issues, outdated chipset or storage drivers can still cause BSODs.

  • Download and run HP Support Assistant - HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
  • Let it scan and install all recommended updates, especially:
    • Intel Chipset Drivers
    • Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST)
    • Graphics Drivers (Intel + NVIDIA)
    • BIOS (if newer version is available)

Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup can cause watchdog errors during boot.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  • Save changes and reboot

Run System File Checker and DISM

Corrupt system files can trigger watchdog violations.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

sfc /scannow

Then run:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Check for Incompatible Software

Some third-party antivirus, VPNs, or overclocking tools can cause BSODs.

  • Try booting into Safe Mode and see if the issue persists.
  • If not, uninstall any third-party tools and test again.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.
