I purchased an HP Pavilion Gaming dk-15 laptop 3-4 years ago. Today i.e 12th Aug , 2025 , I received an email saying - "Thank you for registering your new HP computer". 

I did not attempt any registrations nor have I purchased any new machine . I think it is a scam. I want to report it and know the further steps.

Try these steps:

Do Not Click on Links: Avoid clicking on any links or downloading any attachments included in the email. Scammers often use these to steal personal information or install malware on your device.

Verify Email Source: Check the sender's email address for authenticity. Official HP emails tend to come from domains such as @hp.com. Be cautious if the sender's address looks suspicious or doesn't match.

Report the Email:

  • To HP: Forward the suspicious email to HP’s official email for phishing and scam reports. In many cases, this would be an address like phishing@hp.com, but you should verify this by checking HP’s official website or contacting HP directly.
  • To Your Email Provider: Use your email client's features to report the email as a phishing attempt or mark it as spam.

Check Your HP Account: Log in to your HP account from a secure browser and verify your account details to ensure no unauthorized changes have been made.

Update Security Software: Make sure your antivirus and anti-malware programs are up-to-date and run a full scan on your computer to check for any threats.

Monitor Accounts: Keep an eye on your financial accounts for any unauthorized transactions. Sometimes, scams target other personal information.

Enable Two-Factor Authentication: If available for your HP account and other online accounts, activate two-factor authentication for enhanced security.
