Please can I get help. So I use a Hp Omen 16.1 and for along time my display has not been working, so I have been using and external monitor the whole time. Two days ago, I decided to uninstall the old display driver and reinstall a new one since it had an error. Downloaded ddu, disable all network adaptors and I checked all the boxes and selected all GPUs. Now after restarting, both my external and my main monitor or off and I don't know what to do. I think I may have cleared the miscrosoft basic display adapter to.
I have downloaded the new drivers already but I can't see anything so I'm not able to install them.

Hi @Ibk_0
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining everything so clearly—I'm really sorry you're stuck in this situation. It sounds like DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) successfully removed all GPU drivers, including the fallback Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, which is why both your internal and external displays are now blank. The good news is: your system is likely still running, just without any active display output.
Let’s walk through a safe recovery process to get your HP OMEN 16.1 back online:
Step-by-Step Recovery: No Display After DDU
Option 1: Boot into Safe Mode (with Display Fallback)
Safe Mode loads minimal drivers, including basic display support.
- Force shutdown your laptop by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
- Power it on and force shutdown again as soon as you hear fans or see any flicker.
- Repeat this 3 times—Windows should enter Recovery Mode.
- Wait ~30 seconds, then press:
- Down Arrow once
- Enter (to select “Advanced Options”)
- Down Arrow to “Startup Settings”
- Enter
- Then press F4 for Safe Mode
If successful, your internal display may come back with basic resolution. If not, try connecting your external monitor again and repeat.
Option 2: Blind Driver Installation via Keyboard
If Safe Mode doesn’t work and you’re confident Windows is running:
- Plug in your external monitor.
- Wait ~2 minutes after boot for Windows to settle.
- Press Windows + R (Run dialog).
- Type cmd and press Enter.
- Type the following blindly (assuming driver is in Downloads):cd %userprofile%\Downloads setup.exe orstart "" "AMD_driver_installer.exe"
This assumes your downloaded driver installer is named clearly. You can also try start "" *.exe to launch the first executable.
Option 3: Use HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Last Resort)
If nothing works and you need to restore display drivers from scratch:
- Use another PC to download:
HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Create a recovery USB for your OMEN model.
- Boot from USB and reinstall Windows with factory drivers.
After Recovery
Once display is restored:
- Install the latest graphics drivers manually:
- HP OMEN 16 Drivers
- Download both AMD Radeon and NVIDIA RTX 3050 drivers if your model has hybrid graphics.
You're doing everything right—DDU is powerful but unforgiving when all fallback options are removed.
Let me know your exact OMEN model (e.g., 16-n0000ax) and whether you see any signs of life (fan, keyboard backlight, etc.)—I’ll guide you further. We’ll get your display back.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
