Hello,
Is it possible to mount additional disk M.2 NVMe in version OMEN 17-w170nw W10 in order to have 2 disk (existing HDD and M.2 NVMe) installed or it is only possible to replace the existing HDD 7200 rpm drive by SSD or M.2 NVMe flash disk . If HDD can be replaced let me know by which flash disk: SSD or M.2 NVMe?
Thanks for helop in advance,
HRichie

Hi,
Based on HP's published information, I have not seen an OMEN 17" model equipped with two m.2 SSD slots. Additionally, the models that I have reviewed either have two HDs or one HD and one NVMe m.2 SSD. Yours seem to be the later. You can double check your provisioned configuration by removing the back service cover and base enclosure for a visual inspection.
Your best performance option (if really needed) would be to replace the hard drive with a 2.5" high performance SSD.
What HP really needs to do for a high performance laptop is to offer a configuraton with dual m.2 NVMe slots that can support RAID. The HP workstation models might support two NVMe SSDs.

We need the exact product number to provide you with accurate information.
You can have both a HD and the NVMe SSD according to one source.
The NVMe SSD is a Samsung MZVLV256HCHP-000H1 (256 GB) model.
And yes, the HDD can be replaced but not by a NVMe 2.5" SSD.

Another source indicates that the m.2 slot can use either a SATA SSD or NVMe SSD.
The HD is a 1TB hybrid model with an internal 8 GB cache.

Thanks for answer.
Laptop numbers are:
HP OMEN 17-w170nw
SN: [Personal Information Removed]
Product No: Z3B70EA #AKD
So, my machine has embedded HDD 1TB 7200rpm and I would like to upgrade the machine with :
1) additional M.2 NVMe 256GB or
2) addidtional M.2 256GB (if NVMe standard is not supported in my notebook model)
provided it has additional M.2 type of SSD connection embedded (with or without NVMe support).
In case main board doesn't allow installaton of second M.2 disk I would like to know what kind of disk can I install to replace existing HDD:
- hybrid HDD with SSD (from 8GB up to ...? 128GB?) or
- SSD SATA 3 or
- M.2 or
- M.2 NVMe (like in model w-172nw with GTX 1070 where M.2 NVMe disk 480 GB is installed only ).
I understood that there is - according one source - possiblity of installation of second disk M.2 or M.2 NVMe (made by Samsung MZVLV256HCHP-000H1 ) apart from existing HDD what will be for me the best solution.
I have found in service manual and HP parts info that the M.2 NVMe disk connection exist. The part number of 256GB M.2 NVMe disk is PA 847109-002 while its description is GNRC SSD256GB 2280M2PCIe3x4SS NVMeTLC PA. The only problem is this part is not available in HP Parts or partners network in Europe (GB, Germany, Poland)
Actually I use Samsung's M.2 SM951-NVMe in PC and appreciate it very much while working in CAD with 3D models.
Thanks in advance for help.
