Is there any way of upgrading storage in my laptop

Model-HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-dk2012TX

I have used up all the 512 gb of ssd.

Is there an extra slot for upgrading ssd or adding a hdd?

and if there is only one ssd slot and we upgrade it by removing the 512 gb one and replacing it with 1tb ssd how will it have the operating system in it as the os is installed in the original 512gb one?

 There are a few methods you can go about increasing your storage.

Method 1 is to buy an SDXC card.  You have a SD multi media port that will accept this card. SDXC cards are made some what affordable upto 1TB in size. 

If you are into gaming I only recommend the SanDisk with the link I have provided. Its the only card on the market at the moment that will give you some what comparable read write speeds to that of your already installed SD.

With this method you will not have to clone your sd drive to a much larger SD drive.

Method 2 is to buy the Buffalo External SD drive sold in either 500GB or 1TB. You do have a USB type C port that allows up to 10GB transfer speeds. This is a fairly inexpensive method. I will how ever warn any one that buys it. I am the kind of guy that hates lugging around extra peripheral devices. If you are always on the go, for a solution it works but isn't as convenient as having the SDXC card. So while its inexpensive on the price, it comes with inconvenience.

With this method you will not have to clone your hard drive to a much larger SD drive.

Method 3 is cloning. You will need a few items for this. You will need to get an SDD/HDD sata docking station, or a sata 3 to USB type C dongle, or sata 3 to USB 3.0 dongle. Once you have the hardware connections. You will then need to download AOMEI BACKUPPER. You will only use the freeware version, not the professional version. If you have problems understanding the cloning process there are a plethora  of videos on the aomei backupper on youtube.

I have done all 3 methods. but for convenience I like to use method 1. My SDD drive I only use for my operating system and programs. I always keep games, and downloadable content separate from the operating system partition for faster operation, and also to use as a method of anti hacking anti corruption from the operating system partition. SDD drives also only have so many read and writes compared to hard drives. SD drives tend to fail from to many read and writes and can some times have shorter life spans than hard drives.

As for me I don't clone a new ssd/hdd unless the hardware has reached 2/3rds of its life span. Then when I am done with them I convert them to external hard drives for my gaming systems to put games on there, or if they are really old drives, I use them for image files, and music.

• The hard drive cable is available using spare part number L56898-001
• The hard drive brackets are not available as a spare part          (this is the killer)

Given parts are N/A you have to run around to find compatible parts, my suggestion is to upgrade 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD to 2TB using the following products or similar
