Hi guys,

I was playing Gta for the first time and all was fine no signs of stutter or slowdown, had no other applications open as I launched gta through steam, suddenly the game freezes and begins juddering which I've seen on ps4 and xbox loads of times so quite normal but after that somewhere in the laptop or powerpack made an electrical p-choo sound and turned straight off power light and screen no hdd activity  I left it a second then tried to turn on, power light came on fine and hdd activity is whirring however the screen never lit up. I tried restarting several times power pack charger in and out always sounded to boot up but no visual on screen, back lit keyboard turns on fine when using FN and F something, I tried a suggestion of connecting an external monitor but no video output it seemed. I tried a suggestion of powering off, holding the power button until it turns on beeps and turns off them held windows key + B and did bios recovery screen that ACTUALLY SHOWED ON SCREEN!! HOWEVER, once the progress bar finished the screen went off and seemed to be booting back up but then no screen same as before just black nothingness. prior to playing Gta did some windows updates and double checked my graphics card drivers were up to date.  I've had no issues before this and is kept VERY securely and handled carefully. Please can someone help a brother out?

Hello @Ethan9

You stated you are having "Issues with brand new gaming laptop panel".

Your model number (17-w273nr) is a couple of years old. When did you purchase the laptop?

Are you still under warranty?

Did you replace the panel since you've had the laptop?

I can offer a couple of suggestions...

If you can get a bios screen, it might be a software issue in Windows, or possibly a bad SSD.

1. See if you can boot into Safe Mode with Networking. If the screen will show, you can try some troubleshooting like reinstalling Video drivers or booting into a clean state to disable certain services that might be the cause.

  • With the computer off, press the power button and rapidly tap the F11 key.
  • Click on Troubleshoot.
  • Click on Advanced Options. At this point you might have an option for See more Recovery Options, choose that if needed.
  • Click on Startup Settings.
  • Click on Restart.
  • When the laptop reboots, choose the option to boot into Safe Mode with Networking option 5.

If it successfully boots into Safe Mode, you can further troubleshoot.

Otherwise if not, you may have to try reinstalling the operating system either from F11 or with a USB installer.

2. See if you can boot into the Diagnostics Tool and run hardware tests.

F2 at power on will access the diagnostics. Run the hard drive test first, then if needed, the extensive tests.

Hi Dean, thanks for your reply.

I have tried all suggestions but the screen will not display anything and hasn't since it completed the bios re write thing. The computer powers and hums normality but never displays anything. The PC was bought brand new from Currys in December.

Do you have any advise?

Best regards,

As I mentioned, you can try reinstalling back to factory specs via F11 or with a USB installer.

Or if purchased in December 2018, you can contact HP support and do a warranty claim.
