OMEN Laptop - 15-en0013dx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hey there, for the past 2 years I have been facing an issue that is quite peculiar. The circumstances for this glitch is quite weird. For this to happen you have to do the following steps:
- Put the laptop on sleep

- Take it off AC charge
- Turn on the laptop
- Put it back on charge

- Run an app that uses the dedicated GPU (1660ti)

- Laptop screen goes black (the lcd's Backlight is on it is just black)
- Restart laptop to get it working.
only loophole i have found is to utilize hibernate instead of sleep then this glitch doesn't occur. If any of you have anyway of helping me troubleshoot this issue it would be kindly appreciated. P.S. From what i recall this started happening as soon as the omen gaming hub introduced an eco mode. I had switched to Linux during this time but when i came back to windows this glitch started happening. Linux does not have this glitch. I have tried reinstalling windows from scratch and it was no help.

Hi @imavitality,

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OMEN 15-en0013dx laptop is experiencing a black screen issue after waking from sleep under very specific conditions, mainly when unplugging from AC, using an app on the dedicated GPU (1660 Ti), and having previously used eco mode in OMEN Gaming Hub. Here’s a detailed troubleshooting approach:

1. Update Drivers & Firmware

GPU Drivers:

Update both the NVIDIA 1660 Ti and Intel integrated GPU drivers from their official sites.

BIOS/UEFI:

Go to HP Support → enter your model → check for latest BIOS updates.

Some wake-from-sleep black screen issues are resolved with BIOS microcode or power management fixes.

Chipset / Power Management Drivers:

Install latest Intel Management Engine Interface (IMEI) and chipset drivers.

2. Disable Fast Startup

Settings → System → Power & Sleep → Additional Power Settings → Choose what the power buttons do → Change settings that are currently unavailable → Uncheck “Turn on fast startup.”

Fast Startup sometimes conflicts with GPU initialization after sleep.

3. Adjust Power Plan & GPU Behavior

Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings:

Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance for your apps.

In Windows Power Options:

Make sure Plugged In / On Battery settings for PCI Express → Link State Power Management is Off.

Set Sleep → Allow hybrid sleep to Off.

4. Reset OMEN Gaming Hub / Eco Mode

Since you noticed the glitch began after OMEN Gaming Hub introduced Eco Mode:

Open OMEN Gaming Hub → disable Eco Mode.

Uninstall and reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub to ensure no lingering profile settings.

Check HP Support Assistant → Power / Thermal settings for conflicting profiles.

5. Test Hibernate Instead of Sleep

As you’ve discovered, hibernation avoids the glitch. You can temporarily:

Settings → Power & Sleep → Additional power settings → Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings → Sleep → Hibernate after → Set reasonable values.

6. Advanced Debugging

Event Viewer (Windows Logs → System):

Look for errors related to Display, GPU, or Power around the time of black screen.

Safe Mode / Clean Boot Test:

Disable all non-Microsoft services and test sleep/wake cycles. This can identify if a driver/service is causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

I believe that the fast startup setting was the main cause of the issue as of now i can't recreate the issue. For those who are facing a similar issue, I will keep an eye out if the issue arises or not.
