Pavilion Gaming Laptop(AMD RYZEN 5)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I purchased a laptop couple of days back(HP PAVILION GAMING,AMD RYZEN 5, NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1650, 8GB RAM)

And when I start to play games like Apex Legends, COD Warzone, Far Cry 3, the laptop automatically locks up after 10 min or so into the game and goes into sleep mode. There was a solved answer on this forum which said to change the time to never on the screen settings, which apparently did not work.

@SneakyTurtle

Welcome to the HP support community.

First, let's start by performing a hard reset on the PC to release any excessive static/power that could have caused the issue.

Turn off the computer.

Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.

Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

Second, you can check if there is Bios update available for your PC, here is the link to download.

Performing a test on the Hard drive as well as on the Memory from the Hardware diagnostics:
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once for System Diagnostics.
4) Go to Component test.
5) Run extensive Memory and Hard Drive test.

Depending on the test results, If the test passes then I would suggest you perform a complete system recovery.

Note: Recovery will wipe off everything from the computer. If you have anything important get in touch with some local stores to get your data backed up.

Hey man,

I've tried everything you said. No luck.

Hey @SneakyTurtle don't follow those steps. The problem is because of the BIOS update. Apparently HP doesn't test the updates that they push for general consumers like us. The reason of the shut down is that the new BIOS update reads the temperature as 100 degree Celsius and it hibernates.

Follow this thread for more updates on the matter but there is no official response yet form HP. We all are waiting.

Hey mate,

I read your thread and I've even tried turning off hibernation in cmd. But when I turn it off ,the laptop is shutting down when I launch the game. Even I contacted HP Support and their customercare executives are so lazy in responding, I had to call them everytime to ask for updates and they don't have any. So please do let me know what HP Customer Supports tells you what to do.

Cheers
