HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0058wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This is something I've tried asking for help by the Microsoft Community but not even they can help me s now I'm asking here to a clear answer.

Recently my Pavilion Gaming Laptop has been really giving me an issue for the past couple of days it was working fine until I shut it off to restart it then it booted up before going to a screen with the HP logo saying "Perparing for Automatic Repairs" I turned it off (Which I'd admit wasn't the best thing I should of done) then it boots up to the normal HP logo loading screen however it appear's that it takes forever to load.

So, I turned it off again and let it load the automatic repairing until suddenly a few minutes in I get a blue-screen saing "You're PC has run into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart it for you" then quickly retstarts but then I'm taken back to the HP Logo screen but there are no loading dots. I've tried pressingthe key that lights up my keyboard and it doesn't work it just froze.

I've tried asking the Microsoft Commnity many times but none of them give me a correct answer just the same thing I boot it in the Recovery mode (Which also results in a blue-screen) or I install Windows 10 on it with a UFEI USB Drive (Which also results in a blue-screen)

I am planning on getting it fixed by someone if someone here can't even help me with this but I want to at least see if there's anyone willing to help me so please.

@shiya-Anubis,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Community,

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Run an extensive system test as well as an extensive test on the Hard drive from F2 (Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).

If the test fails, I would suggest this could be a possible hardware failure. I would recommend you contact our HP support for available service related options.

If the test passes, I Would suggest here is to contact our HP support to order a set of recovery media for your PC.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

I encountered with the exact same problem on the exact same device which is HP PAVILION Gaming 15-cx0144tx.

Yesterday night as I updated the windows from 1709 to 1803, and then restarted the laptop it got crashed. While researching for the problems on google, I found out that my laptop was having problem with this bootres.dll file.

It showed something like ‘Boot critical file c:\efi\microsoft\boot\resources\custom\bootres.dll is corrupt.’

Then I did the system restore and my update was reversed. Like it went went back to my previous version windows. And after restarting, my laptop is working properly now.

Note: System Restore will only work if you’ve updated the windows just before sometime.

I now might disable the automatic updates of Windows 10 and make a backup drive before something happens again.

I hope it will help you too.
