Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution
HP Recommended

I have an omen 17 Laptop 3080ti. It randomly shut off about 30 minutes ago, won’t turn back on and doesn’t show that it’s charging.

@suede19, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

To address the power issue with your OMEN 17 laptop, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Check Power Source and Connections:

  • Ensure that your power adapter is properly connected to both your laptop and the electrical outlet.
  • Verify that the electrical outlet is functioning by plugging in another device to see if it receives power.

Reset the laptop:

  • Disconnect the power adapter from your laptop.
  • If possible, remove the battery from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
  • Reconnect the battery (if removed) and power adapter, then attempt to turn on the laptop.

Check for any LED indicators.

  • Observe any LED indicators (such as on the power button or charging port) for signs of power or charging status.
  • If there are no lights or signs of activity, proceed to the next steps.

Inspect the power adapter:

  • Examine the power adapter for any visible damage or wear.
  • If you suspect an issue with the adapter, try using a compatible adapter to see if it resolves the problem.

Hey! I appreciate you reaching out, I am afraid I have already tried all of these methods. A little bit more on my issues, I had been using my laptop with full charge, plugged in and running perfectly. I looked away for a second and it had completely powered down. I tried powering on again, nothing. I tried all of the methods above, nothing. No indication that it has any power at all, when i plug it in, no indicator light. I tried a different charger but received the same results. I will most likely take it in to get checked out unless someone is able to help me. I have never had a single issue with this laptop, always running very smooth, although it is a laptop and gets very hot sometimes. I have a 3080ti in there, I play games and do school on it. It is a little dusty but I always blow it out if it starts to build up. Thank you for your support!

@suede19, thank you for your response

Hey, thanks for the detailed info!

It sounds like something more serious might be going on with your laptop, especially if you've already tried everything and it's still not responding. Given that you’ve ruled out issues with the charger and power, it could be something like a hardware failure. The fact that it completely shut down and won’t power back on is definitely a sign that something’s not right.

A few things to consider before you take it in:

Battery Disconnect: If you're comfortable with it, you could try disconnecting the battery (if it’s removable) and holding the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power in the system. Then, plug it back in and try to power it on again.

Take care and have a good day.
