Laptop starts charging for a couple seconds, but then stops

Hello! i am having an issue charging the laptop as the white light is on, but it is not charging. it will charge for a few seconds after you plug it in.  it only charges when the system is shut completely off.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled both microsoft batterys in the device manager

I assume your warranty is expired, correct?

Not sure what is wrong other than the battery might be on its way out.

Plug the power cord in and boot up the PC, but don't let it boot to Windows.

Instead rapidly tap the F2 key for the UEFI Diagnostics menu.

Then choose Component Tests and navigate to Power.

Test both the AC power cord and the Battery.

If the battery is bad, the test will usually find it. Otherwise it should also calibrate it.

If your lucky, it will work afterward.

Thanks for the quick response @Photoray002 . I have just tested both, and they both passed. My laptop is 15 months old, so it did expire March 30 2019 . It would seem like the battery would last longer than this.

Well, I cant give you a guarantee that its the battery, but sometimes the Diagnostics doesn't always catch a bad battery. 

Otherwise, I would have no way of knowing for sure why its doing that.

If you feel its software related, you could always reinstall Windows before investing in another battery.

HP doesn't sell them. You would have to look online for a third party seller.
