Omen 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello!

I own my HP Omen 17 now for about a week and i have a big problem:

After i put the notebook into standby-mode and rewoke it one day later, the FPS in all games is about 3-10FPS. The Taskmanager tells me, that the performance of the NVidia GPU is (with a started game) about 30%.

All drivers are up to date. NVidia drivers and that "geforce experience" thing is also up to date.

After a windows restart the games run on 60-200 fps until the next standby-mode is activated.

What can i do?

@Autofahrer1

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Does the fps drop with or without the charger being connected?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Go to Start Menu > click on Settings.

  • Type performance > choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.

  • In the new window, go to the Visual Effects and select Adjust for best performance.

  • click Apply and ok...this should do the trick.

If the FPS reduces when the adapter is connected to the PC then please follow the below steps:

Right-click your desktop background and select NVIDIA Control Panel. You can also find this tool by performing a Start menu (or Start screen) search for NVIDIA Control Panel or by right-clicking the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and selecting Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

To quickly set a system-wide preference, you could use the Adjust image settings with the preview option. For example, if you have old hardware that struggles to play the games you want to play, you may want to select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider all the way to “Performance.” This trades graphics quality for an increased frame rate.

By default, the “Use the advanced 3D image settings” option is selected. You can select Manage 3D settings and change advanced settings for all programs on your computer or just for specific games. NVIDIA keeps a database of the optimal settings for various games, but you’re free to tweak individual settings here. Just mouse-over an option for an explanation of what it does.

If you have a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology — that is, both NVIDIA and Intel graphics — this is the same place you can choose which applications will use the NVIDIA hardware and which will use the Intel hardware.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for the answers.

Of course the charger is connected and the battery is at 100%.

I performed the settings you described. No effect. I still got maximum 10 fps after the standby mode. The gfx card is btw a Nvidia 2060.

After a windows restart everything is "normal" again and the fps are stable at a high rate.

Sry, you got me wrong....

The problem still exists. The settings had no effect!

The restart of the OS each time after I rewoked the notebook from standby mode is NO solution 😉

Thank you for posting back.

Not to worry! Let's try this:

  • 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
  • 2. Expand batteries.
  • 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
  • 4. Shut down the computer.
  • 5. Disconnect the charger.
  • 6. Remove the battery.
  • 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
  • 8. Insert the battery only.
  • 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

I tried that (your last post). No effect.

Additional i turned off the "Battery Boost" thing in NVidia Center and tried several settings in the energie option.

Also no effect.

It seems to me, that (simply spoken) the graphics card doesnt notice that the power is "back" and runs in a sort of "super energy saving mode". (Of course this can be totally wrong)

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

I already downloaded and installed the HP Support Assitstant. All drivers which it finds/recommends are installed.

I understand your concerns.

Please perform the system reset.

Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This feature is recommended for recovery because it reinstalls Windows 10 while either preserving your personal data and customizations or removing all your personal data.

You have a choice of two methods to reset your computer.

  • If Windows 10 loads correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.

  • If Windows 10 does not start correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset through Windows Recovery Environment in this document.

Have a nice day!!
