Hi @shlomoi10,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
If you are having trouble downloading HP Desktop Support Utilities from the Microsoft Store, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Check System Requirements:
- Ensure your computer meets the system requirements necessary for running the HP apps. You can usually find these details in the app description on the Microsoft Store.
Update Windows and Drivers:
- Go to Windows Settings by clicking on the Start menu and selecting "Settings."
- Click on "Update & Security" and then on "Windows Update."
Reset Microsoft Store Cache:
- Press Win + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
- Type wsreset.exe and press Enter. This will reset the Microsoft Store cache, which may resolve any underlying issues with app downloads.
Adjust Date & Time Settings:
- Go to "Settings" and select "Time & Language."
- Ensure that your Date, Time, and Region settings are correct for your current location.
Try an Alternative Method:
- Visit the HP Customer Support page for drivers and downloads.
Use HP Easy Start:
- Go to HP's setup page.

You are Welcome @shlomoi10
Thank you for your detailed follow-up and for already trying the suggested steps. I understand how frustrating it is when a utility like HP Desktop Support Utilities fails to install, especially when the error points to missing driver dependencies. You’ve done well to isolate the issue and clarify that HP Easy Start isn’t applicable here.
Let’s focus on resolving the specific error: “Missing required driver: HPDSUExtension.inf, HPDSUSoftwareComponent.inf” (0x803FB005)
Step-by-step recovery for HP Desktop Support Utilities installation
1. Install required driver components manually
These INF files are part of HP’s software component packages. You can install them directly from HP’s support page for your PC:
- Go to HP PCs – Software and Driver Downloads
- Enter your exact PC model (e.g., HP Envy, Omen, Pavilion, etc.)
- Select Windows 11 as your operating system
- Under Software – Solutions or Driver – Software Component, look for:
- HP Desktop Support Utilities Extension
- HP Software Component Update
Download and install both packages. These contain the missing INF files required by the Microsoft Store app.
2. Restart and retry installation from Microsoft Store
Once the drivers are installed:
- Restart your PC
- Open Microsoft Store
- Search for HP Desktop Support Utilities
- Click Install again
3. Confirm installation via Settings
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
- Confirm that HP Desktop Support Utilities appears in the list
- If it does, launch it and verify functionality
Why this helps
- The error code 0x803FB005 is triggered when required driver components are missing.
- Installing the INF packages manually satisfies the app’s dependency check.
- Restarting ensures the system registers the new components before retrying the install.
You’ve already taken the right steps to isolate the issue. Installing the missing INF packages directly from HP’s support page should allow the Microsoft Store app to complete installation successfully.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
