OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-en1000 (2L1F1AV)

I have one key on my keyboard that has a problem with it. It doesn't always work when I press it. At first, I thought that just this one key was the problem, because it was the only one not working properly. Then, suddenly, I started to experience the same problem with a bunch of other keys on my keyboard.

I think the problem might be with the keyboard drivers themselves, because why would more keys start having the same issue all at once if it were a hardware problem?

Any thoughts on what the problem might be or how to fix it, or do I need a new keyboard?

Read below urgently.

The problem key is the letter (E) the Letter E is a letter that I use a lot and much more than any of the other keys and this is what make me think that the problem might be more of a software problem then a keyboard problem since I am also having problems with other no so much used keys on my keyboard.

Hi @GlennMc777,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how frustrating it is when your OMEN 15.6" Gaming Laptop PC (15-en1000) keyboard starts misbehaving, especially when the letter “E”, one of the most frequently used keys, becomes unreliable, and other keys begin to show similar issues.

Let’s walk through this carefully and thoroughly.

Recommended Troubleshooting Steps

1. Check for Filter Keys

Sometimes Windows accessibility settings interfere with key responsiveness.

  • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard
  • Make sure Filter Keys is turned off

2. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

This tool checks for hardware faults in the keyboard.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc, then F2 to enter diagnostics
  • Select Component Tests > Keyboard Test
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to test each key
  • If any key fails, note the Failure ID and contact HP Support

3. Reinstall Keyboard Driver

  • Press Windows + X, select Device Manager
  • Expand Keyboards
  • Right-click your keyboard and choose Uninstall device
  • Restart your laptop to reinstall the driver automatically

4. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause input issues.

Download and install:

  • BIOS update
  • Chipset driver
  • HP System Event Utility

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
