HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2000 Laptop PC (2P1Z6AV)

Hello All,

My name is Huzeyfe,

I bought my HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-dk2076nt on June 01 2022 and since April 2024 everything has been okay,

I used it for editing videos, working in digital marketing, and sometimes playing Call of Duty, But since April, my laptop started to turn off suddenly when I'm playing, the temperature of the computer when I'm playing is max 85 C and I think its normal for a gaming PC, it happened about 8-10 times and I started to get worried about it

Additional information:

*My PC is up to date

*I only upgraded my RAM (from 16GB to 20GB) (I replaced one SK Hynix 4GB with Kingston 16GB) both of the MHZ are same

*I add one Samsung QVO 870 1TB 560MB-530MB/s Sata 3 2.5" SSD

Does anyone face a problem like this one? If yes how did you manage this problem? did you change any parts of the PC? or it a software problem?

Thanks for any help.

Huzeyfe.

Hi @HuzeyfeKaddah,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with unexpected shutdowns, especially during gaming. Here are some potential causes and solutions for your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop shutting down suddenly while gaming.

Possible Causes:

Overheating:

  • Although 85°C is generally acceptable for gaming laptops, the system might be triggering thermal protection mechanisms to prevent damage if temperatures exceed safe levels. Dust buildup in the cooling system or poor airflow could also be a factor.

Power Supply Issues:

  • If the power supply isn't providing sufficient power, especially under load (like during gaming), it might cause the laptop to shut down. This could be due to a faulty power adapter or issues with the battery.

RAM Compatibility:

  • While both RAM sticks have the same MHz, mixed brands can sometimes lead to stability issues. Running a memory test can help determine if the RAM is stable.

Drivers and Software:

  • Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can lead to system instability during gaming sessions. Ensure that your graphics drivers are fully up to date.

Windows Power Settings:

  • Ensure that your laptop’s power settings are set to High Performance while gaming. Sometimes, power-saving settings can lead to unexpected shutdowns.

Solutions:

Monitor Temperatures:

  • Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to keep an eye on CPU and GPU temperatures. If they reach critical levels (usually above 90°C), you may need to improve cooling.

Clean the Cooling System:

  • If you haven’t done so, clean the vents and fans to ensure proper airflow. This might require opening up the laptop, so proceed carefully.

Check RAM Stability:

  • Use tools like MemTest86 to check if the RAM is functioning properly. If errors occur, consider using only the original RAM or replacing the new module with one that is known to be compatible.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that all drivers, especially the graphics driver, are up to date. Use HP's Support Assistant or visit the HP website for the latest versions.

Adjust Power Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and set it to High Performance. Ensure that the laptop is plugged in while gaming.

Check the Battery and Power Adapter:

  • Inspect the power adapter for any signs of damage and ensure it’s properly connected. If possible, test with a different power adapter to see if the problem persists.

Run Diagnostics:

  • Use HP’s built-in diagnostics tool (available through the BIOS or HP Support Assistant) to check for hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
