My HP Omen 16 does not power ON. There is light in the charging LED (white/orange) but nothing happens when I try to power the laptop ON. The LED on the power button never powers on. I have tried:

Win+B+power combo

Win+V+power combo

Charging-discharding the battery full/empty

Any suggestion?

Thank you in advance

Hi @PapaBravo22

It seems like you've already put considerable effort into troubleshooting your HP Omen 16, and while you've identified some irregularities, the issue persists.

Here's what I'd suggest based on your observations:

Next Steps:

Power Supply Check:

  • Even though the replacement battery works, the fans shutting down indicates a deeper hardware issue. It could be a problem with the power supply unit or motherboard. If you have access to a reliable power adapter, test it with the laptop to rule out the adapter itself.

Temporary Display Issue:

  • The faint display appearing briefly may suggest a graphics card or internal connection issue. Connecting your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI could provide more insight—if the external display works consistently, the internal screen might need professional repair.

Intermittent Power Button Function:

  • Since the power button works randomly, it could point to a faulty switch or internal wiring. This is likely something that needs professional repair or replacement.

Hardware Diagnostics:

  • If possible, try running HP's built-in diagnostics tool before the fans shut off. Hold down the Esc key or F2 during startup to access diagnostics. If it doesn't stay on long enough for this, it'll reinforce the need for service.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi @PapaBravo22

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Omen 16 is experiencing a power issue despite the charging LED indicating that the laptop is receiving power.

Here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the charger and remove any connected peripherals (e.g., USB devices).
  • Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the charger (without peripherals) and try powering it on again.

2. Check for Display Issues:

  • The laptop might be turning on, but the display could be malfunctioning. To check:
    • Turn on the laptop and listen for fan noise or keyboard backlight activation.
    • Shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen to see if a faint image appears (indicating a backlight issue).
    • Connect the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI to rule out display problems.

3. Inspect the Power Button:

  • If the power button LED is not lighting up, the button itself might be faulty. You may need to have it inspected or repaired by an HP-authorized service center.

4. BIOS Recovery:

  • If the laptop isn’t responding, try forcing a BIOS recovery:
    • Turn off the laptop completely.
    • Hold down the Windows + B keys (or Windows + V) and press the power button for a few seconds.
    • Release the keys and wait to see if the BIOS recovery screen appears.

5. Check the Charger and Battery:

  • Ensure the charger is functioning properly. If possible, test with another compatible charger.
  • If the battery is removable, try powering the laptop directly through the charger without the battery.

Option 1: Tried all methods which does not work.

Option 2: I’ve seen the faint display a couple of times but it does not stay on long enough for me to be able to interact with it.

Option 3: Power button works at random times.

Option 4: It’s difficult to say if it functioned because of a faint display appearing.

Option 5: Originally thought it was the battery bought a replacement battery to realize that both do function but the laptop fans run for a few seconds then turn off.
