Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fb2006sa (A2DD8EA)
Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop turns off after I put it to sleep on battery after a couple of hours. It crashes while in sleep and this never happens normally. To recreate this, just put the laptop on sleep and wait some time around 3-6 hours.

Hi @TafsirH, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

The issue you're experiencing where your laptop restarts unexpectedly after prolonged sleep, is typically linked to Connected Standby (Modern Standby) and power management conflicts. The Kernel-Power Event ID 41 indicates the system did not shut down cleanly, often due to a crash or power loss during sleep or wake transitions.

Let’s walk through steps to diagnose and resolve this:

Disable Modern Standby (Connected Standby)

Victus laptops support Modern Standby, which can sometimes cause instability during long sleep periods. You can disable it to revert to traditional S3 sleep:

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Run this command to check if Modern Standby is enabled:
    powercfg /a
If you see Standby (S0 Low Power Idle), Modern Standby is active.
  3. To disable it:
  • Open Registry Editor (regedit)
  • Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power
  • Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named: PlatformAoAcOverride
  • Set its value to 0.
  • Restart your laptop.

Note: This change disables Modern Standby and enables classic S3 sleep, which is more stable for long sleep durations.

Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Outdated firmware or drivers can cause sleep/wake issues.

Visit the HP Support page for your model: Official HP® Support

Download and install:

  • Latest BIOS update
  • AMD Chipset drivers
  • HP System Event Utility

Adjust Power Plan Settings

Go to Control Panel > Power Options

Select Balanced or HP Recommended

Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings

Expand Sleep > Hibernate after and set it to:

  • Battery: 180 minutes
  • Plugged in: 0 (or Never)

Expand PCI Express > Link State Power Management and set to Off

Check for Crash Dumps

Since the system restarts without a bugcheck code, it may not be generating a dump file. Enable crash dumps:

  1. Open System Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery
  2. Under Write debugging information, select:
    • Automatic memory dump
    • Ensure the path is: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP

This will help capture future crashes for deeper analysis.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

To rule out hardware issues:

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP UEFI Diagnostics.
  • Run System Tests > Extensive Test (takes ~2 hours)

Optional: Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup can interfere with sleep/wake cycles.

  1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  2. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  3. Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  4. Save changes and reboot

If the suggestions helped solve the problem, please let us know by clicking “Accepted Solution.” It really helps fellow users find quick answers.

A quick “Yes” also goes a long way in showing appreciation!

Take care and happy computing!
