OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-en1000 (2L1F2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Laptop keeps freezing up and restarting on its own. The event views has 21 Critical events in the last 24 hours under Kernel-Power ID 41. The temperatures are normal. It is completely random and has happened to me while using chrome, playing games, using vs code and even while idle.

Hi @WhodisMan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with some frustrating issues with your HP OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop. Kernel-Power Event ID 41 often points to power or hardware-related issues. Since temperatures are normal, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

Check Power Supply:

  • Ensure that the laptop's power adapter is working properly and is connected securely. Sometimes issues with the power supply or charging port can cause sudden restarts.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure all your drivers are up to date, especially for your graphics card, chipset, and network drivers. Outdated or incompatible drivers can lead to stability issues.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that Windows is fully updated. Sometimes, updates contain fixes for system stability and compatibility issues.

Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use HP's built-in diagnostic tools to check for any hardware issues. You can access these tools by pressing F2 during startup to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.

Inspect Event Viewer:

  • Besides Kernel-Power ID 41, check the Event Viewer for any other related errors or warnings that might provide more clues.

Test Memory and Storage:

  • Use tools like MemTest86 to check for memory issues and run a disk check to verify the health of your storage drives.

Perform a Clean Boot:

  • Boot into Windows with only essential services and drivers running. This can help identify if a background program or service is causing the issue.

Check System Logs:

  • Review the system logs around the time of the freezes to see if there are any patterns or specific errors that occur before the crash.

Reset BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Try resetting the BIOS/UEFI to default settings in case a misconfiguration is causing the instability.

Consider Reinstalling Windows:

  • As a last resort, if the problem persists, a clean installation of Windows might help resolve the issue by eliminating potential software conflicts or corruption.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
