Hi @bwil4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OMEN needing a motherboard (BIOS) update. Let’s go through a few checks.

Before we proceed:
What exact OMEN model do you have, and what BIOS version is currently installed?
(To check, press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and look for BIOS Version/Date.)

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Confirm Current BIOS Version

  • Press Windows + R.
  • Type msinfo32 and press Enter.
  • Note the BIOS Version/Date.
  • Also note the System Model.
  • You’ll need this to compare with the latest version.

Step 2: Download the Correct BIOS Update

  • Go to the HP Support website.
  • Enter your exact OMEN model number (not just “OMEN”).
  • Select your Windows version.
  • Open the BIOS section.
  • Compare your installed version with the latest available.
  • Download the newest BIOS if it is newer than yours.
  • Only install a BIOS update specifically for your exact model.

Step 3: Prepare the System Before Updating

  • Plug the PC directly into a wall outlet.
  • Close all open programs.
  • Temporarily disable third-party antivirus.
  • Do not interrupt power during the update.

CAUTION: Do not shut down the system while the BIOS update is running.

Step 4: Run the BIOS Update

  • Double-click the downloaded BIOS file.
  • Follow on-screen instructions.
  • The system will restart automatically.
  • Allow the update to complete without interruption.
  • The system may restart multiple times.

Step 5: Verify Update Completed

  • After reboot, press Windows + R.
  • Type msinfo32.
  • Confirm the BIOS version now matches the updated version.

I hope this helps.
