Something strange is happening to my device.
When I press the keyboard, the screen brightness goes up to 100%, and I can't adjust or lower it unless I hit the table or lightly tap the device. When I do that, it returns to normal, and I can control the brightness, but sometimes the problem comes back.
What is the cause? My device is a Victus 15.

@abcd123476, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your Victus 15 laptop has a hardware-related issue, possibly involving:
Possible Causes:
- Loose Display Cable:
- The fact that hitting the table or tapping the device temporarily fixes it suggests that the display cable might be loose or partially disconnected.
- If the connection is unstable, the brightness control could be affected.
- Keyboard or FN Key Issue:
- If pressing keys triggers the brightness to jump to 100%, there might be a faulty FN key or brightness control keys (F2/F3 on some models) sticking or short-circuiting.
- BIOS/Driver Glitch:
- A corrupted BIOS or GPU driver may cause the system to misinterpret input from the brightness controls.
- Power Delivery Issue:
- If the laptop's power connection to the display fluctuates, it might reset the brightness to 100% when a physical movement (like tapping) stabilizes it.
How to Fix It:
Step 1: Check for Loose Display Cable
- If you're comfortable, open the back cover and check the display connector inside the laptop. If it's loose, reseat it carefully.
- Otherwise, take it to an authorized repair center to avoid damage.
Step 2: Test External Display
- Connect an external monitor and check if brightness behaves normally.
- If it does, the issue is likely with your Victus 15's screen or internal wiring.
- If not, it could be a software issue.
Step 3: Reset BIOS
- Shut down the laptop.
- Press F10 while turning it on to enter BIOS.
- Look for an option to restore default settings and save changes.
- Restart and check if brightness control works properly.
Step 4: Update/Reinstall Display Drivers
- Open Device Manager → Display Adapters.
- Right-click Intel UHD / NVIDIA GPU → Uninstall device (Check "Delete driver software for this device").
- Restart your laptop and let Windows reinstall the default drivers.
- If the issue persists, download the latest Intel & NVIDIA drivers from the HP support page.
Step 5: Test Keyboard Functionality
- Check if the brightness keys (F2/F3 or FN + another key) are stuck.
- Try an external keyboard to see if the issue persists.
Step 6: Hard Reset the Laptop
- Power off your Victus 15.
- Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect power and turn it on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
