Hi @Sanique,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a challenging issue with your gaming laptop. Here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

1. Check for Hardware Issues

  1. External Mouse Check: Try plugging in a different USB mouse to see if it works. If it does, your original mouse might be faulty.
  2. Touchpad Toggle: Ensure your touchpad isn't disabled. Some laptops have a function key (often F5, F6, F7) to enable/disable the touchpad.

2. BIOS Settings

  1. Enter BIOS: Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc, F2, Del, or a similar key during boot).
  2. Check Touchpad Settings: Look for touchpad settings and ensure it is enabled.

3. Safe Mode

  1. Boot into Safe Mode: Restart your laptop and boot into Safe Mode (usually by holding F8 during startup or using advanced startup options in Windows settings).
  2. Test Cursor: Check if the cursor works in Safe Mode. If it does, it might be a software conflict or driver issue.

4. Device Manager

  1. Access Device Manager: Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Check for Issues: Look for any issues under "Mice and other pointing devices". Right-click and try "Update driver" again or "Uninstall device" and then restart your laptop.
  3. HID-Compliant Devices: Also, check under "Human Interface Devices" for any issues.

5. Touchpad Driver

  1. Reinstall Touchpad Driver: Go to the laptop manufacturer's website and download the latest touchpad driver. Install it and restart your laptop.

6. Windows Updates

  1. Check for Updates: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Sometimes Windows updates can fix driver issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
