OMEN MAX 16 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-ah0000 (A4NM5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased an HP Omen MAX 16-ah0187TX. It takes over 36 seconds from the time I press the power button until the Windows screen appears. I'm disappointed that the boot time of a high-end model can be this slow. Is it originally this slow? Or is my laptop defective? I've tested the hardware and everything is fine. Could someone with the same model offer some advice?

Hi @KORMIN,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

36-second boot time on a high-end laptop like the HP OMEN MAX 16-ah0187TX can feel disappointing, especially when everything else checks out fine. Let’s break down what’s normal and what might be slowing things down.

For most gaming laptops with Windows 11NVMe SSDs, and UEFI boot, a typical cold boot time ranges from 10 to 25 seconds. So, 36 seconds is slightly above average, but not necessarily a sign of hardware failure.

Steps you can try to fix and check the Slow Boot

  1. Fast Startup Disabled
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
    • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    • Make sure Turn on fast startup is enabled.

  2. Too Many Startup Apps
    • Open Task Manager > Startup tab.
    • Disable unnecessary apps like Discord, Steam, or HP services.

  3. BIOS Boot Delay
    • Enter BIOS (press Esc or F10 during startup).
    • Look for options like Boot DelayPOST Delay, or Startup Diagnostics and disable them.

  4. Hybrid Graphics Initialization
    • OMEN laptops often switch between iGPU and dGPU.
    • If you’ve forced dGPU-only mode, it may add a few seconds to boot.

  5. TPM or BitLocker Initialization
    • If BitLocker is enabled, it can delay boot slightly.
    • Check under Settings > Privacy & Security > Device Encryption.

  6. Windows Boot Logs
    • Use Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System to check for boot-related delays.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
