Microsoft Windows 11

Busted my bios settings and now my laptop boots but never displays anything on any monitor. I basically booted into the advanced bios settings before and configured the display and changed the discrete graphics to hybrid. I tried switching it using the omen hub but it didn't fix it. I tried resetting the bios and updating it using hp's bios update. I also tried everything that HP suggested but to no avail (windows reset, BIOS recovery using USB).

Now, the laptop only works when windows has finally loaded its drivers. My options are either to hand this to a more experienced technician or flash the chip myself. My only problem is I'm not sure which chip to flash since the motherboard has two 8SOIC's. If anyone has any idea how to proceed to using an SPI programmer to flash my bios, can you walk me through it?

Hello,

You need to identify the main BIOS chip, which is usually larger than the other chip on the motherboard.

Size: The main BIOS chip is typically 16MB (128Mbit) or larger. The smaller chip is likely the Embedded Controller (EC) chip.

Part Number: Look for a part number on the chip. Manufacturers like Winbond (e.g., 25Q128...) or Macronix (e.g.,  MX25L128...) will myWisely have the size in the number. The larger chip is the one you need to flash.

So I have Winbonds 25R128JWSQ and 25Q16JWSIQ, and the 25R128JW is the chip I'm gonna have to flash. Got that.

The only component I'm missing now is a healthy bios image which is the probably going to be the hardest since hp doesn't really have those saved in a repository or whatever.
