Hi!
I have an HP Omen 17-ck1020nr. A year ago, the laptop suddenly failed while it was unplugged and I was watching a YouTube video. As it happened one week after the warranty expired, HP couldn't help me, and here in Ecuador I couldn't find an official HP tech support, just printer support. I sent it to a tech store where they managed to revive the laptop, but told me that the GPU might have failed. As I already spent $1500 on this laptop to last 1 year, I didn't want to spend more repairing it. So now I have it as a normal laptop without a dedicated GPU.

Since that happened, I've had the feeling that it might not be the GPU because the device manager recognizes the RTX 3070ti, but with an error 43 message. I've tried using HP PC Hardware Diagnostic Tools and it detects the GPU and says that it passes the test. But the strange thing is that HP Support Assistant isn't recognizing the laptop, on the home screen, it keeps looping, like it tries to load the information. I tried using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool to restoring it, but when I boot the USB I get an error message that says 0XFFEE016. I used GPU-Z to check the info and some parts say Unknown, but the model, device id and drivers info show up.

I explained this to the AI, it guided me through the HP BIOS Configuration Utility (BCU) and extracted the BIOS information, the .txt file shows some spaces in blank. It said that it could be a DMI problem, as some parts are blank, the motherboard doesn't know what to do, and doesn't activate the GPU.

I've tried contacting a human, but in my region, it just offers the virtual assistant, which doesn't help at all. And to use the Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, which says that everything is ok.

I have all the drivers updated, and updating the BIOS gave me no problems.

Can someone help me with that DMI?
Thanks!

I understand your HP Omen 17-ck1020nr is detecting the RTX 3070 Ti with Error 43, and some DMI fields appear blank. Let’s go through a few checks to see what could be causing this.

Check if the system board information is present in BIOS

Restart the laptop and tap F10 to enter BIOS.

Look under “System Information.” If fields like Product Name, Serial Number, SKU, or System Board ID are blank, it indicates a DMI programming issue.

Run the HP BIOS Hardware Diagnostics

Restart and tap F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

Run the System Board and Video tests.

If these pass but DMI fields are missing, the issue is with firmware identity, not hardware testing.

Clear CMOS / Power Reset

Shut down, disconnect the adapter, and hold the power button for 15 seconds.

Reconnect and start again.

This helps reload system board values if they are partially corrupted.

Reinstall chipset and graphics drivers

Uninstall the NVIDIA driver completely using Device Manager.

Install the AMD/Intel chipset drivers from HP’s Omen 17-ck1020nr driver page, then reinstall the NVIDIA driver.

Error 43 can appear if system identity values (DMI tables) don’t match the expected platform configuration.

Check if Cloud Recovery shows the correct model

If Cloud Recovery identifies the laptop as “Unknown” or gives error 0XFFEE016, it suggests the motherboard DMI data is incomplete.

DMI holds product identifiers that the HP tools need to validate the platform.

When the system board identity fields are blank, the BIOS cannot fully configure the GPU, leading to error 43 even if the hardware tests pass.

I hope this helps.

Hi!

So I've tried all the suggestions,

This is what the BIOS shows, and also the configuration that I have it

bios.png

and this is the hardware diagnostics

uefi.jpg

as you can see, some parts are blank, and on the video bios, it appears to have the nvidia drivers or detecting the gpu.

I've also tried uninstalling the video drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller to have a cleaner removal and installation, but it is the same, error 43.

With the power reset, it is the same, and cloud recovery still shows error 0XFFEE016.

Hi @Herdo,

Thank you for the response.

I understand your HP Omen 17-ck1020nr is detecting the RTX 3070 Ti with Error 43, and some DMI fields remain blank even after running diagnostics, performing power resets, and reinstalling drivers. Let’s go through a few additional steps to see what could be causing this.

Reflash BIOS using HP BIOS Update / Recovery

Ensure you have the latest BIOS downloaded from the HP support site for your exact model.

Try performing a USB BIOS recovery using the HP BIOS Recovery procedure (hold Windows + B while powering on with the adapter connected).

This can restore missing DMI information if the standard update didn’t write all fields.

Check BIOS DMI/SMBIOS settings

Enter BIOS (F10) and navigate to Advanced → System Information or similar.

If fields like Product Name, SKU, Serial Number, System Board ID are still blank, the issue is with DMI programming and may require reflashing the BIOS with full manufacturer tools.

Use HP System Board Replacement / Reprogramming Utility (Advanced)

In cases where DMI fields are blank after reflashing, a system board programming tool is needed to restore the board identity.

This step typically requires access to HP service-level utilities, as normal BIOS updates do not rewrite the full DMI.

Check Windows Device Manager for GPU conflicts

Right-click the RTX 3070 Ti → Properties → Details → Hardware IDs.

Compare these IDs to a known working system of the same model. Mismatched DMI entries can trigger Error 43.

Verify Intel/AMD chipset drivers

Fully uninstall all Intel/AMD chipset drivers, then reinstall the latest drivers from HP.

Incorrect chipset installation can prevent proper enumeration of the GPU despite successful hardware diagnostics.

I hope this helps.

I updated the BIOS via USB, everything went well and I have the latest version F.23 Rev.A from September 19. The BIOS system information still appears blank, as in the first image I uploaded, but now the BIOS Revision says F.23.

I also checked and have the latest drivers for the Intel CPU and graphics, and just in case, I uninstalled and installed them. I had already compared the hardware id with another user who has the exact laptop and everything matches. I guess that I need a system board programming tool 😑

Thanks for all the help and tips!
