Hi @Madronetimbre

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the details and for already trying a fresh HDMI to DisplayPort cable—that’s a great start. I completely understand how frustrating it must feel when your new monitor doesn’t light up as expected.

Let’s walk through a few steps together to help bring that screen to life.

Here’s what you can try:

1. Confirm the Cable Direction HDMI to DisplayPort cables are directional. If you're using a cable that goes from HDMI (laptop) to DisplayPort (monitor), it must be an active HDMI-to-DisplayPort adapter. Passive cables typically only work from DisplayPort (source) to HDMI (display). Please check the product description or packaging to ensure it's designed for HDMI output to DisplayPort input.

2. Use a Different Connection Type (if available) If your monitor supports HDMI input, try connecting it directly with an HDMI-to-HDMI cable. This can help isolate whether the issue is with the cable type or the ports.

3. Check Display Settings

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Scroll down and click Detect under Multiple displays.
  • If the monitor is detected, scroll up and choose Extend these displays or Duplicate these displays from the dropdown.
  • Click Apply.

4. Use Windows + P Shortcut

  • Press Windows key + P.
  • Select Duplicate or Extend.
  • Wait a few seconds to see if the monitor responds.

5. Update Graphics Drivers

  • Open Device Manager (right-click Start > Device Manager).
  • Expand Display adapters.
  • Right-click your graphics card and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  • Restart the laptop after the update.

6. Try a Monitor Reset

  • Power off the monitor and unplug it from the wall for 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.
  • Reconnect the cable and check for signal.

7. Test with Another Device If possible, connect the monitor to a different device using the same cable to confirm the monitor and cable are functioning correctly.

Let’s see how the monitor responds after these steps. If it still doesn’t detect a signal, we can explore further options together.
