OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck2000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

BOTH fans are not spinning, causing the post error message 90B. Fans have been cleaned and both spin freely when air blown into them. Unit is about 1.5 years old. Fans show no bearing issues. Would be very odd if both fans went out at the same time, even though they are in good condition. I am thinking that the motherboard may have an issue pushing power to the fan headers. Possibly a circuit component on the motherboard has gone bad? Anyone else have this issue?

Hi @ALLCOMP,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out — we understand how concerning it can be to see a 90B POST error, especially when both fans seem physically fine. You're right to dig into the possibilities beyond basic cleaning and blockage, especially given the age and condition of your OMEN 17.3-inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck2000 IDS Base Model.

Steps to Try:

  1. Reset the BIOS
    • Power off the laptop.
    • Hold Windows + B + Power for 10–15 seconds to initiate a BIOS recovery or force EC reset.
    • This can sometimes "wake up" the fan controller.

  2. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics
    • Tap Esc at boot > Select F2 (System Diagnostics).
    • Choose Component Tests > Fan to see if it detects fan RPM or faults.

  3. Update BIOS/Firmware

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
