OMEN 17 HDD to SSD / SSD read/write speed

Hi HP experts,

I've had this Omen 17 w224tx for about 4 years now and still performing quite well. Actually, I'm not using it for gaming but engineering simulations (ANSYS- Fluent). I would like to find an opportunity to increase its performance. Reading the forums here I still wasn't too sure so please help me to find the right upgrade.

My system current spec is as below:

Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ

2 TB 5400 rpm SATA

2x8GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM

SSD IM2S3138E-128GM-B - 119.24 GB

Questions: 

Q1- Since the operating system is installed on the 128GB SSD, I'm afraid I lose Windows if I change my 128SSD? or does HP still support it?

Q2- I have 2TB HDD and thought to change to SSD to something like Crucial 2TB (https://www.crucial.com/ssd/mx500/ct2000mx500ssd1/ct11643189), but not sure how compatible is with the system, Is there any optimum selection aiming at increasing in computational speed? for example is a Samsung 1TB SSD 860 Pro, will perform better than the Crucial 2TB indicated above?

A1. No, it runs Windows 10, you can re-install it, change to different drive you still have same Windows 10 key because the key is embedded in BIOS of your machine. Changing System board you need to buy new license.

A2. You can use 2TB 2.5" SATA SSD to replace existing 2.5" SATA HDD, they are all standard. But from many reviewers, Samsung 860EVO is better in terms of price/performance. Note: You may see SSD (7mm) is thinner than your existing HDD (9.5mm)  but it should physically fit to same bracket.

Thanks so much for your advice. Not sure if I may ask another question that I couldn't simply find in this OMEN 17 w224tx manual (link above)

what is the maximum data read/write speed of this model's SSD expansion slot? I could read in the manual the current model is "M.2 SATA SSD, PCIe NVMe TLC", however if I want to go for a high end Samsung 980 PRO which has a read speed of 7000Mbs, does my model can still handle such speed?
