OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-xd0000 (758R2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi

I've been troubleshooting this issue with Microsoft support, who told me to repair Windows 11. I did this but no fix. I then went to NVIDIA support from the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, and we found to have determined where the issue comes from which is the OMEN  Gaming Hub, as when it controls the GPU it causes the screen to black screen and then show the lock screen.

We confirmed that the software was the most likely cause as when putting the GPU on debug mode the issue went as it prevents any software from setting fan and clock speed, and restores it to the factory default.

I can attach a video if a method is provided, as it highlights how severe the issue is, as on the 'Discrete' mode for graphics the laptop after black screening, the power light on the button goes but the fans still run and no keyboard or button input affects whats happening.

I am only keeping the graphics mode on 'Hybrid' as I only trust the iGPU from this issue now, and it renders the laptop useless for its purpose of gaming. The saddest part is that the laptop is only 1.5 years old, please could this issue be fixed as this is a major concern.

Thank you for your time.

I just did a second test with debug mode on the NVIDIA 4060 Laptop GPU and the issue persisted so I am now unsure as to whether OMEN Gaming Hub is still the cause.

Moreover, I updated the BIOS through the HP Support Assistance application and there has still been no improvement either.

@rastyx4, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand how frustrating it must be to experience black screens and system lockups, especially on a gaming laptop that’s only 1.5 years old.

This issue appears to be related to graphics mode switching in OMEN Gaming Hub, particularly when set to Discrete mode. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Use External Monitor to Regain Access

If your internal display goes black:

  • Connect an external monitor via HDMI or DisplayPort.
  • Boot the laptop and check if the external display shows Windows.
  • If it does, you can use it to revert settings in OMEN Gaming Hub.

Revert Graphics Mode to Hybrid

  • Open OMEN Gaming Hub on the external monitor.
  • Navigate to Graphics Control and switch back to Hybrid mode.
  • Reboot the laptop and check if the internal display resumes.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect all peripherals and power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and boot the laptop.

Update BIOS and GPU Drivers

  • Use HP Support Assistant or visit the HP Support Page
  • Install the latest BIOS, Intel, and NVIDIA drivers.
  • For clean driver installation, use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode.

Force BIOS Recovery

If the internal display remains black:

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds.
  • Release all keys and wait ~60 seconds.
  • This may trigger BIOS recovery and reset graphics routing.

Reflash BIOS via USB (Advanced)

If blind reset fails:

  • On another PC, download the latest BIOS from HP.
  • Use the BIOS utility to create a recovery USB.
  • Insert into the affected laptop and repeat Windows + B + Power method.

Clean Install Intel GPU Driver in Safe Mode

  • Boot into Safe Mode via external monitor.
  • Uninstall Intel UHD Graphics from Device Manager.
  • Delete leftover driver files from C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository.
  • Reboot and install the latest Intel driver from Intel’s website.

Additional Notes

  • Code 43 errors often indicate driver conflicts or hardware detection issues.
  • Avoid switching to Discrete mode unless necessary, especially if OMEN Gaming Hub is unstable.

Hi,

I’ve tried all of the following issues, I’ve updated the BIOS post-issue to see if it made any difference and it didn’t.

Hard resetting had no affect either.

The issue comes when the laptop switches to the dedicated gpu and not from the direct use of the ‘discrete’ and ‘hybrid’ mode on the OMEN Gaming Hub Software. As when the iGPU is in use the laptop screen is fine.

The issue still remains if using an external monitor as it is likely the gpu being faulty, which was said by NVIDIA customer support when troubleshooting this issue.

Faulty hardware is extremely poor of both HP and NVIDIA despite how new the laptop is and from me cleaning the fans often to prevent overheating.

And since the warranty is out of date I will have to spend money on another laptop or pc as I need the performance for software for my university course, in which I bought that laptop for the purpose of.

This is very disappointing as I hoped this laptop would last me for the 4 years of the course, and it lasted only one.

Thank you for your support in trying to resolve this issue but I’m not sure on what to do in trying to fix my laptop, or whether it’d need replacing.

Kind regards.

I have similar issue After switching to Eco Mode in the OMEN Gaming Hub, my HP Victus laptop screen goes completely black right after the Victus logo appears. The system still powers on — the keyboard lights, fans, and screen backlight are all active — but the display stays black. I can tell the system is running because I’m able to open files and apps using keyboard shortcuts, but I can’t see anything on the screen.
