Hi @dayv8389,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I can clearly see the Windows installation screen asking for Intel RST VMD Controller drivers (e.g., iaStorVD.inf) before proceeding. This happens because your OMEN by HP 15-dc0001la laptop uses Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) with VMD (Volume Management Device) enabled in BIOS, and Windows Setup cannot detect the storage device without the correct driver.
Why This Happens
- When VMD is enabled, the NVMe SSD is hidden behind Intel’s RST controller.
- Windows installation media does not include these drivers by default.
- You need to load the correct Intel VMD/RST driver during setup.
Solution: Get the Correct Drivers
- Download Intel RST VMD Drivers for HP OMEN 15-dc0001la
- Go to OMEN by HP 15-dc0001la | HP® Support
- Under Storage, look for Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver.
- Download the F6flpy-x64.zip or similar package (contains iaStorVD.inf).
- Prepare the Driver
- Extract the ZIP file to your USB drive (same one or separate).
- During Windows setup, click Load Driver and browse to the folder containing iaStorVD.inf.
- Alternative: Disable VMD in BIOS
- Restart your laptop → Press F10 to enter BIOS.
- Go to Advanced > Device Configuration.
- Disable VMD Controller (or set storage to AHCI).
- Save and exit, then retry Windows installation.
- ⚠️ Note: Disabling VMD may affect RAID or HP recovery features.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
